Touring - touringwheels mavic or dubbelwalled

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey

I am of the persuation that for touring you will want to have a doublewalled rim. I got this but after I did some research on the net I found out that my singelwalled wheels that has been sitting on the bike forever (has a set of Mavic M231 and one set of Mavic M236) are supposed to be really great wheels. The dubblewalled wheel I have is a alexrim off a cheap bike. I did a tour on it and its already crooked. The mavicwheels are like 10 years old and still true. Never been toured with though.

What is the general idea here? Will I be better of with my high quality single walled rims or my (probobly low end) crappy doublewalled ones? Or neither?

And also if anyone knows anything about this, is there any diffrence between 231 and 236 etc? Just reading around I cant seem to figure out what the diffrence might be.

Thanks alot

Don't get hung up on multiple walled rims, if you go with Mavic A719, Velocity Dyads, or Sun Rhyno Light rims, you'll be fine for any loaded touring you can throw at them.

It's funny to ask if wheels you've found to be "crappy" might be better than wheels you find to be quite reliable.
