Another Old Guy who decided to get back on the bike. My name is Dean, and I live inthe Twin Cities area (Minnesota). High school teacher (close to retirement age), golfer, guitar player and builder, dad, husband, and family ATM. I'm slowly, but surely, building up some miles and hope to do quite a bit more riding in Montana over the next couple weeks.

Presently, I'm riding a bike I picked up at a garage sale for $50 - Univega 2.5 hybrid thing. I'm looking for a modest road bike and have posted some questions on the Road board regarding which brands are solid. My frame of reference from the '60s and '70s includes Raleigh, Bianchi, Bottecchia, Miyata, Panasonic, Schwinn, Batavus, Fuji, Motobecane, et al. Times have changed!

This looks like it's a fun pace to hang out - I'm sure I'll enjoy it here, and I am certain to learn a lot!

Thanks,
Dean

Welcome. Just sort of retired myself, but plan on working part-time.

Enjoy your bike.

Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, Trek, Fuji, Lemond, Bianchi, all are great.

There are some signs that possibly Raleigh (and definitely Schwinn) are becoming more *Mart type bikes.

Any good local bike shop should be able to head you the right direction.

Remember, FIT is the single most important thing on a road bike. That means being much more sophisticated than just stand-over height, which is likely the least important thing.
