I'm trying to put this rear wheel on that I bought used. It's a Phil wood hub and the lock ring off my other wheels will not fit...it seems a bit too small or something. Now I think I might have ****ed upt the thread on this hub. I just spent like $280 on the wheels and the tires and glue and now I can't get the lock ring on!! What is going on? Is the lock ring too small or is the hub stripped?!? The lock ring goes on with out a problem on my other rim. Does anyone know if there are different sizes of lockrings? God damn it I'm so pissed off right now.
Relax, take deep breaths.

I think I figured it out...Phil Wood hubs aren't compatable with Shimano lockrings, which I think mine has...that would explain why it doesn't seem to want to fit. Now, I just hop I didn't do any serious damage trying to wrench the old one on! Damn that was ********.

Is it a track hub? If so the lockring is reverse threaded. If you were using a fixie converted rear wheel from a regular road hub before, the threading is the same as the freewheel. If that is the case, the lockring you are using is from a BB, and you need to get a TRACK lockring, it will cost you around 10-18 dollars I estimate depending on your LBS and which quality. So there is a difference between lockrings, look at your hub if you see two different sets of threads then you have a track hub, which requires a track lockring.

phil wood hubs need a 33.5x24tpi lockring. that's italian thread. shimano, suntour and most everybody else's lockrings won't work. f---ing spaghetti-eating bastages. here's a useful link: http://www.businesscycles.com/trpart.htm#lockring
