Advocacy & Safety - Bikes of A and S Show your ride!!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

With all the drama, sturm and drang, logic, illogic, etc of A&S I think we all forget we are cylists first....opinionators and master debaters second.
So show off your ride and remember the common ground :thumb:

Yup, only four current rides.
You must have a heck of a storage area.
Of course I haven't really stopped collecting either.

unless you're collecting things theres only some many bikes a person needs!
i like to keep the stable rotated, sell a couple a year, build up a couple more. always rotate the steeds, keep them fresh.
i used to fancy myself a collector but hate the clutter.
most of them are kids bikes I got for cheap or free, zoobomb and all, y'know

The bent frame is proof that someone is doing VC WRONG!
Top vehicular cyclists know that to properly "drive your bicycle like a car" you should have a steering wheel.

musta been on the towpath night rides. ;)
I like the one-way for the towpath, but my boyz at Century got the Superbe in on the day of one of those night rides, so we finished slapping it together and I gave it its maiden ride that night (and broke it). Yep it is the latest...though I am feeling a new drop-bar bike with disc brakes in my future...haven't decided between building up a La Cruz, buying a 2010 Jamis Aurora Elite, or waiting to see what else might come available this year.
I spent so many decades on used/Wally world beaters because they were all I could afford...so I guess I've gone a little hog since I finally started making white man's money in this century. The guys at Century don't mind it. :D

I'm looking at the same. Have most of the parts to swap over, so just need frame and disc wheels. Thinking La Cruz, Aurora or maybe a Double Cross.
No new pictures (1-2 years old), but you get the idea.

Love the "FRED" brand.
What is 53 MPB?
Thanks. I was going to make a "Fred" decal using the Trek font but I could not get it to look right.
On a trip to the hardware store, I realized that the mailbox letters would be even more Fred. They are reflective
so they add a bit of safety too! I totally embrace my fredness.
53 mpb is This (http://www.zeropergallon.com/).
53 miles per burrito
cool, I used to say "73 miles per burger." Fully understand.

those both look like very well used bikes. Both have coaster brakes it looks like. Just curious, how's that SRAM 7-speed holding up? And is the three speed a SRAM or Sturmey hub? I like those two rail B-66 saddles also, they are stiffer than the one rail B-67s, but you have to use old-school seatposts to mount them. Is there a dyno on the 7-speed? If so, I'm not seeing it.

Yes both bikes have coaster rear brakes as well as a front cable operated rim brakes.
The Seven speed wheel is a Sachs (now SRAM) Spectro Seven circa 1999. Complete bike was bought in 2000 for about $135 new in Germany. I have put over 35,000 miles on it in the past 7 years of all weather year round commuting in Iowa. I had one repair to the hub last year for about $100 including postage for mailing the wheel to/from Wisconsin (Yellow Jersey Cycles.)
I have at least 20,000 miles on the Vaterland bike with the3 speed Sachs Torpedo hub. No problems outside of tire replacements.
Old school seat posts are no problem for an old school bicyclist like myself. In fact I never "graduated" to the New School - Serious Cyclist Club™.
Both bikes came with a tire driven dynamo; I removed it from the 7 speed, and haven't used the one on the Vaterland since I left Germany in 2002. Too much noise and drag, I prefer simple battery powered lights.

I noticed the PVC pole for your "patented" see-me light system on the Sachs.
