Advocacy & Safety - Thank You Stickers?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As a cyclist, all of us have seen mean people, and definitely very nice ones. Have you guys ever thought of carrying along some thank you stickers for drivers who were nice enough to provide us space for comfort. Then, when we actually catch up with them, we'll just paste it on their cars, such that they will be able to see it and not get angry by thinking we are sticking trash on them. Would that actually promote friendly relationship between cyclists and other motor vehicles. This was actually inspired by some rude bus drivers who I intend to complain about the next time I get their license plate number down. I do want to have a long lasting pleasant relationship with the people I will share the roads with till the day I die.

It would severly piss me off if someone stuck a sticker to my car.

I think it would work better to give them the sticker, let them pick the spot?
Agree give them the sticker and let them apply it

Whenever a car makes the correct move, or a courteous one, or one that made riding easier for me, I always give them a nice hand signal, usually a 'vertical salute' with my left hand. The most common example of this is when a car comes to an intersection (or out of a parking lot) on my right hand side, and waits for me to go by, even though they CLEARLY had enough time and enough room to proceed.
Drivers have to deal with so many idiots on the road--other autos, morons on dirt bikes who ride against traffic, pedestrians who think they have the right of way in the middle of a block--yadda yadda--that I figure whatever encouragement I can give is greatly appreciated. It probably makes them give the benefit of the doubt to other riders as well.
I wouldn't put a sticker on their car though...unless, of course, it was a BUSH 2004! sticker.

I'm not sure I'd want to give some of the drivers around here that option.

I too give a courteous left hand vertical salute. If they piss me off I would put a BUSH 2004 sticker on their front windshield. (Not really, but it would make me feel better and it would get them to vote for KERRY.)
Just having fun :)

If you're gonna catch up to 'em, why not just say "Thank you"? And/or, as they pass, wave in a "thank you" manner.
put a sticker on my truck and I'll run you over :) j/k
I agree with the "say thank you" or give a friendly gesture. Besides, carrying the stickers in a place such that they could be accessed by me in enough time to get them out for a car would be too much work.

it wouldn't be a good idea here in the states. some people love their cars more than life itself. messing with someone's car can land you in a world of trouble.

Absolutely true BUT...
isn't it just so, so sad?!
I know some people carry copies of legal "share the road" information for bad drivers. But I like the idea of warm fuzzies for good drivers, too.
If you didn't want to carry something to physically give to a nice driver, maybe you could embroider "thank you" or a smiley face on the palm of a cycling glove in a contrast color (you could express the inverse on the other glove).

The vertical salute usually gets interpreted as a "HEIL!" during part of my commute.. best to just give a nod and move on.

sounds like the gold stars thing from kindergarten.
also i would pee on you if you did that to my car. if i had one.
How would you like it if someone just walked up and put a big thank you sticker on your bike?

Heh actually I got promoted at work. Then on top of that someone quit so I'm doing their share too. I used to have literally all day to go on bikeforums and post. Now I'm swamped. :(
Why don't we just keep the status quo. Give the a-holes the finger and realize that today's nice guy is tomorrow's a-hole.

I was in a local shop in SF and they had stickers
"I drive in bike lanes like a dumb@$$"
They were sold out.
