Discuss the special roads in your life. You know, the roads that for whatever reason keep calling you or always seem to be the way to the good times in your life.

Mine, highway 276 north from Greenville, South Carolina toward Asheville, North Carolina. Beautiful two lane road that was once the main route many years ago.

Waterfalls, neat little towns like Brevard, North Carolina, all stuck in time.

There's a voice that keeps on calling me
Down the road is where I'll always be

Every stop I make, I'll make a new friend
Can't stay for long, just turn around and I'm gone again.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll want settle down,
Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

Down this road, that never seems to end,
Where new adventure, lies just around the bend.

Very nice.

My highway 276 has become a cycling paradise. (especially the part to Cesar's Head.)

Here's a short video of Bald Rock which is appx halfway up the Greenville side toward Ceasar's.

In Florida, none stand out. Some stretches of US Hwy 41 bring back some memories.

Out here in WA, the only one that comes to mind is US Hwy 2. Same as Airwick said, nice waterfalls, quaint little towns, etc....

Truxel Road. 2 1/2 miles of a combination of false-flats, steep downhills, and rollers. It's REALLY fun to go blasting down it while dropping the FredFest.

hwy 16N from Charlotte to Conover from 1984 to 1995....it kept me close to my Dad, the Dad that i just HAD to get away from in 1984 (by getting married and moving to Charlotte) because i felt he was way to controlling over my 19yo life....hind-sight is 20/20.

now? hmmm....anything on the BRP....beautiful scenery, good cycling memories, serene while climbing, absolutely freakin' awesome when descending - and, it's just very relaxing to me. i don't think i could ever get tired of riding my bike on the BRP.

Afraid I dont know your highway 16N, but should be noted that highway 276 takes you right to the Blue Ridge Parkway from Greenville. :) I was right about the climb up Caesar's being tougher than anything on the Parkway, yes?

16N isn't much to speak of...just the connection i had yrs ago. wouldn't think of riding on that road today on a bike...but, i put plenty of miles on my car back 'n forth every or every other weekend to see the Dad i SO HAD to get away from.

276....i have a plan....base of Brevard....64 to 215 to BPR to 276 back to Brevard or opposite.

Caesars Head is a ***** and there is nothing on the BRP to compare to that climb, so, yes, you are correct. and i will ride my bike to the top next year at the CH Challenge if not before...

and, as if 276 needed to be more cool,... it goes through Brevard before meandering through Pisgah National Forest. Looking Glass Falls is awesome.

OK don't snuffle... my path with God first and foremost...

Second, there is a MTB trail I love to do that is tree covered, never far from water and fun as all get out.

If anyone has ever had the opportunity to ride the "17 mile Drive", Pebble Beach, CA and along the coast up to Santa Cruz and down the Coast thru Big Sur, they would undersatnd "bike heaven". Also "Back Bay" Newport Beach, CA comes really, really close.

that's 101, yes? I bet it is gorgeous, but 276 is like 250 miles of heaven leading toward Greenville.

My heaven is better than your heaven, Pam. :p

i think i rode in "Back Bay" while visiting San Diego last year....or maybe not, as i'm too unfamiliar with the area, but hte name caught my eye. and, if it's the same place - it is beautiful!

Having never been to your slice of heaven won't argue. My sister just moved to Hilton Head... not certain where that is in context to Greenville, but I am hoping to find our shortly.

And if you never ridden route 1 (not 101) you can't criticize - it is extremely beautiful!!!

In Florida the Overseas Highway. Like being on a ship at sea. And the Kangamangus Highway (spelling ?) in New Hampshire. Took that mountain road on a road bike and thought I was going to buy it a few times on the hairpins.

There isn't a single road, but just about every road that runs along the Yellow Breeches (that's a rather large creek for those of you who aren't from these parts), is idyllic. McCormick Road is the closest to home. (Karen might have a couple pictures to post from when she passed through last November), Park Place, Creek Road, Lerew Road, Pine Road - they all have a very special feeling to them, and all are great, lightly traveled cycling routes as well. Ok - not so lightly traveled on the first day of trout season, but otherwise...

Good call on these roads.

A little bit farther away from you, there is a similar cluster of little roadlets around the Connoguinet (or however it is spelled) between Carlisle and the Mts.

But the road that means the most to me at the moment is HWY 94. Beautiful drive from Carlisle PA to Westminster MD. Its so nice that I have been driving it several times a week recently. Well, maybe there are other attractions in Westminster also...
