...and is a stripped-down frame worth $55?

Since wrecking my '84 Olympic 12 (and bending the frame), I've been kind of looking out for a worthy replacement. Is there anyone out there who knows what Nishiki model this is and if it's any good?
The ad mentions "interesting trades"; I may have some bikes to trade to get the price down....

Nishikis are awesome. I dunno about the stripped down frame though. My roommate just picked up a late 80's early 90's nishiki complete (minus drop handlebars replaced with comforts) for 50 dollars.

If you're sure it's the right size, looks big to me, you ought to be a 6'1'' or better guy for that size in my est. 55 is not alot for a name brand, straight, decent paint.
Storage scuffs, scratches matter little to me. Look for poorly threaded BB shells too.
It's not a very old (lees than 25yr) model it seems so it's quite likely chromoly.
Very old ones, Nishiki especially were hitens. The photos can show the condition but you can as well. Labels, many other details can tell more, even if you write them here. Photos are definative but I read you as being savy enough to be taken at your word. Even a det. decription of the parts remaing help. Looks better than AVG from what I can see.

I agree it looks like a very large frame on the 60+ side. also jusding from the threaded headset and that little housing stop under the DT I wonder if this is just a basic HiTemsile frameset. I don't think that bike came with Ergo on it.

It an odd looking frame. It has a huge head tube suggestive of a 62/3cm or greater frame yet the seat tube and rear traingle dont look like they'd be from a frame that big. It also has down tube cable stops which mean 1 of 3 things: stem shifters, STI levers or some type of flat bar lever.

Based on the downtube decal it's a 1987 or 1989.
Doohickie, can you get a model designation? If yes, I can give you a pretty good idea of what it is. I don't see a chromoly label on the seattube. Nishiki was real good about letting you know what the frame was made of.

It's a Made-In-Taiwan (by Giant?) Nishiki Sport. Cro-Moly. I think 87 or 89 looks about right. We worked out an equitable trade with a bike I wasn't doing anything with and a little money, plus he threw in some derailleurs and aero levers.
It's a 25" (63 cm) frame, a little bigger than the 60 cm he advertised, which is fine with me. The frame is basically sound but will need a little work as far as paint goes. Since it's a straight gloss black, I may try to do a repaint and mask over the decals. One of the braze-ons on the top tube is damaged too; I may just take it off.
Head tube and bottom bracket seem okay but I'll repack them, maybe use the bearings off my Olympic 12 which had very little use (for a 20+ year old bike) before I crashed it.

Doohickie, A Sport of that vintage would have chromoly main tubes. The 1984 Olympic 12 was a Tange 5 main tube frame. Tange 5 is non-butted chromoly tubing so the two frames would be similar. Should give you a nice ride. Looks like you got your direct replacement, nice going!

Made for 26"/559mm wheels, perhaps?

If it's a Sport it was made for 27 inch wheels. Nishiki was still selling bikes with 27" wheels in 1991.
