I had some friends in high school that used to joke about that. Our summer phys-ed class spent a lot of time walking in a local shopping mall that had closed. The mall staff still watered the plant things via an automated system, and the only people in the place were us and members of the local retirement home (large place to walk where they can't get lost or wander off).

The plant was later destroyed by police in a series of small fires. ;)
