I spent 10 years playing electric bass in a completely wacky dense unapologetically academic avant-garde jazz ensemble...but we used to tell people we played "folk music".

After all, we were people. Aka "folks". And we played our music so that other people (aka "folks") could enjoy it.

So, y'know, folks playing music for folks = folk music, right?

Sonic pollution dude, as a granola boy or at least a patchouli snuggler, he outta know better than to disrespect his coworkers. Ask him to turn it down. Where are his headphones/buds? It's his music not the department's.

Blast some No Innocent Victim or One King Down. If your co-worker complains, explain that it's Christian music and loudly question him regarding his religious discrimination.

Think of the whole episode as expanding your musical horizons.There isn't that better?

Sort of refreshing. Better than someone blasting classic rock and saying it's a free country and can play what they want (in an office; uh, no).

Bring you along a musical instrument and play along with his folk music. He'll get tired of you messing it up and stop playing his music at work.
