There has been a lot of questions about the accuracy of the 305's
reported calorie burn rate, i can tell you that it is way off in my
case.
I wear a bodybugg sold at 24hr fitness and it measures my calories burned.
This is the tool i have used to lose almost 100 lbs
So here is what i know about 305 reported burn to my actual burn rate.

I rode 24 miles and by the BB i burned 696 Calories but the Garmin
says i burned 1618 Calories which i have learned enought over the
last 1.5 years while losing the weight that it was way off and it is.

I really want to try one, but just don't want to drop 200 bucks on one. That is very expensive. :(

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I don't think it's very accurate myself. I went on a five-hour ride, and it reported that I burned over 4,000 calories. I know I wasn't keeping that kind of pace, at least if all the various calorie-counters on gym cardio machines are accurate at all.

If you look here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=141&compareProduct=36728&compareProduct=331

you'll see that the new Garmin Edge 500 uses "heart rate-based calorie computation", which to me seems to indicate that the 305 uses something less accurate. If I had to guess, I'd guess it was simply weight, speed, and amount of miles climbed.

I've seen that Bodybugg thing before. You like it?

They both have a subscription just with BB you get six months free, if you get the GWF from Amazon you can get three months free and 6.95 a month after that.

I don't think any of those bicycle calorie computers is more accurate than the old 40 calories/mile formula.
