Cyclocross - Will these wheels work?

I just started racing cross and am loving it. So much so that I went and bought a fuji cross comp. I love the bike but the wheels are heavy. I was wondering if the wheels I had built for road racing would work? They are 20/28 kinlin 27mm with formula hubs -dt revolution spokes. I am 154 pounds and slow if that matters. I really don't want to destroy these wheels if I can help it, and would prefer to just build another set if I have to. If I do though my wife is going to be mad. :D Any help would be appreciated. Just use the wheels that came with the bike. I personally don't think the alex 32 spoke wheels are all that heavy for 32 spoke wheels.

And if something happens to them, your road bike won't be out of commission too.

People use road carbon wheels all the time. No reason why you can't use those alloy wheels for it.

32c tires run at 40psi offer a lot of rim protection

if your area has really mtb style courses than I might think twice about it, but if it lots of grass I would just do it.

Thanks guys for your time. I still have the original wheels that came with my road bike so it really wouldn't be out of commission. So far all my races have been very soft with a lot of mud-grass, but I'm sure that will change someday. Although, I have had to true the Alex wheelset that came with my bike after every race so far. The tensions on those seemed to be all over the place.
The guy from Biowheels that finished up my build for me had said I could even use the race wheels for cyclocross, but I'm not so sure. What about a budget build, maybe 24/28-28/32? with Kinlin xr-270, xr-300 or even tb-25's with Dt Comps? Thanks, Jeremy

man, i am trying to just get any old aluminum rims...my wife will kill me if i get another new bike this year (should of gotten the Giant TCX instead of the Defy)...so, i'll be on a steel bombproof bike with, yes, steel rims:twitchy:...at least i have appropriate tires on the thing!

Haha I know how you feel. When I told my wife that I should buy a cyclocross bike for the race my buddy signed me up for, she was not happy. :D Now I told her I'm going to need another set of wheels. So that is 2 bikes and so far one set of wheels this year. I'm wondering whether I should push my luck with another set of wheels.:twitchy:

i'm on a quest to hit up craigslist, even if it means getting a whole 'nother bike (if the package is $40 or less and the rims are true, aluminum w/ quick release). but i've really gotten the bug and already bought a barely used Giant TCX aluminum FORK (!) since i know i'll find a use for it someday soon, ha!
