Hello,

I'd like your help in confirming what I have here is indeed a 1986 Gios Torino Professional frame. I came upon it in a craigslist purchase with a bunch of other bicycles and components. Also, if you'd like to help me identify it's value, that would be great!

The guy who I purchased it from replaced the C-Record components with a hodge podge of Dura Ace and other Shimano components, and then had it repainted. I'm thinking it would be most attractive/valuable sold as a frame on ebay. Let me know what you think, thanks!

Is that a dent in the fork?

No, but the photo makes it look that way. It's where the fork starts to angle, and is the same on both sides. Definitely not a dent.

Its a Gios, an Aerodynamic, its been repainted, missing a number of graphics. Including the AERODYNAMIC text on the side of the seat stay.

+1... also the AERODYNAMIC text on the TT (here is a link to what this should look like -in GIOS blue) :

This frame has two things going against it (in addition to the paint):

- it appears to be a larger size
- it is white and not GIOS blue

One think that you need to look at is the bottom bracket. It is supposed to be italian threaded. With the mixed component addition, if it were re-threaded to English, there is a lot of value loss... (like 50% - this will make it unattractive to a collector who wants to restore it)

Thank you. Can you share with me what clued you into it being an Aerodynamic versus a Professional? Also, what is the pecking order of the Gios Torino line?

The bike is a 58 cm size, which I believe is a pretty ideal size, yes? Is there an easy way to determine italian threading vs english threading? I understand the difference in size to only be 2mm. Any fool proof way?

Confirmed it is still italian threaded. Thanks.

just curious: does this white frame have the flattened "aero" seat stays as the Gios blue one shows? Looks like they are, but hard to tell in that first pic.

It has "Gios" inscribed on the seat stays. Does that answer your question?

Depends on who you ask, but the Aerodynamic is way up there in a lot of people's books. The top of the order is probably a 70s Gios Torino Super Record with Pantographed Super Record components. There is no such a thing as a low end Gios... It's like asking what's the pecking order in Rolls Royce or Bentley cars.

I just sold my 1985 Gios on CL for $650. I only had it for 90 days and never rode it. Beautiful condition and had been in storage for ten years. At 64cm I knew it would be a problem to sell. I got lucky as the buyer wanted the Super Record group to build up his Pinarello Montello. I expect to see the frame pop up on Ebay someday. Here are a few pics.

no, that's the stay caps, if I understand you...the stays themselves are flattened below the brake bridge in the pics of the blue one...presumedly to make them more "aero".

Ahh I understand you now. No, I don't see any 'flattening' of the seat stays below the brake bridge. Round 'til the drop outs. But then again I do not see the flattening in the photos of the blue one on velospace either.....

Wow, that is beautiful. Hopefully some very tall man or woman finds it and loves it.

It's rather subtle, but if you look at this pic: the area where the 'aerodynamic' decal is placed on the seatstay is flatter than round...at least that's what I see.

looks like a professional to me, white is the most common colour for that model, the forks are "crimped", I've had bike with those columbus blades as well, columbus factory done I'm sure.

Wow, so it's possible this is the professional model, and that the previous owner didn't paint over the blue, but rather had it repainted the original white color. How much did you sell yours for?
