Road Cycling - Specialized Sequoia vs Cannondale vs Trek

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm looking for a road bike with more of an upright riding position. My two LBS sell Trek, Specialized and Cannondale.
I'm thinking about the Sequoia Elite vs similar Cannondale (Sport Road 500/800) and Trek 1200C/1800C.
I haven't ridden them all yet, but was wondering what your views were; I've read in other recent posts that the Elite is pretty popular around here.
Thanks. Kevin.

I've ridden a Specialized Sequoia Sport (a step down from the Elite, I believe) and a Trek 1000C, and I can tell you that both were lovely, comfy rides. In the end I chose a Trek hybrid that I felt better suited my needs, but it was a near thing. I don't think you can go far wrong with any of the three brands you mentioned provided your shop takes time to fit you to a bike properly.

I've got two 2003 Sequoia Experts (Elite?) and am quite happy with it. The only significant problem we've had is the wheels. After a few thousand kms both bikes (within a month of each other) had numerous broken spokes - occuring again and again. Even after complete respoking and rebuilding the wheel they broke again (and again). If they have the same wheels as in 2003 I'd budget for some Mavic Cosmos or other basic, strong wheels properly tensioned.
There is also very little room on the handlebar with the extra set of brake levers for a speedo and a light. But with a bit of ingenuity managed to squeeze it all on.
Good luck!

At similar price ranges, the Treks have better components than the Specialized. The Specialized range has more models, including much spendier ones. Don't know anything about the C'dales.

They are all good bikes so I would test ride them all...hopefully one of the three will stand out for you...in my case i tried a c'dale, trek and giant and the cannondale is the one i left with because it felt the best to me.

I agree with these three brands you can't pick a loser. I chose the Elite based on the butted AL frame, carbon rear stays and ride over the 1800C, but it was close because of the Ultegra on the Trek. I've been real happy with my choice and have had no problems after 800 miles. I would suggest you take long enough test rides to help you decide, and have fun choosing!

someone wrote this to me when i was making a decision...
after a year or 2 when money is of no issue anymore, which would you be more happy with? For me, it was between a trek 2100 and specialized allez elite. i knew i would have wanted the trek a year or 2 down the road, so went with it...ended up spending a couple hundred more for the 2200. I'm sad that all that money has left my wallet, but aside from that, i don't regret it at all.
which would YOU be happier with in the end?
