Have you been in situations that scared or otherwise affected you during Halloween? When I ask this, it can range from the run-of-the-mill tactics that people might do to cause them to jump a few inches off the ground, get spooked from noises they aren't used to hearing, or react differently after seeing something that just doesn't belong. Such happens with those who go out Trick-or-Treating or during other Halloween events. But people might be affected in other or serious ways such as things that really aren't supposed to happen and/or bring lasting effects. Going broke buying candy to hand out do other people doesn't count. I'll give you a personal example of mine.

Something that "otherwise" affected me happened during one of my college years. The university had a "haunted house" in an old building of theirs that wasn't used very often. A group of students had volunteered to put everything together so that it would look like a haunted house. Most of the various rooms, or sections that the tours were taken through looked dark, dim, creepy and forlorn.

At one room, everything changed. An innumerable number of lights began to flash rapidly and the people running the "haunted house" moved slowly around like evil spirits might. But the flashing lights began to have an effect upon me, something that was terribly wrong. I have epilepsy and the blinking lights caused me to go into a petit mal seizure. I was conscious, I could see and hear everything, but I had trouble speaking, thinking, or moving. I just stood there as the other people in the tour walked away. Finally, somewone who was running the "haunted house" noticed me, took me by the arm and gently lead me to the nearest exit. Once outside, he sat me down on the nearest patch of grass and left. After about 10 minutes, my head was clear again and I was able to return to my dorm room.

Have you been in situations that have scared or otherwise affected you during Halloween? They can be from the past or from the present day. Please discuss.

Meanwhile, have a safe and happy Halloween.

I was a little boy maybe 7 and the people across the street had a haunted basement. These people always had the best of everything, from cars to toys. When I was led down to the "dungeon" I spotted the scariest looking ghoul sitting at a bench stirring a cauldron of boiling whatevers. I immediately flipped out and ran up the stairs at full speed for my house crying all the way. I can still see that face to this day, about 45 years later.

I was a small kid about 10 trick o' treating and went up to this porch to knock. There was this scarecrow sitting at the end of the porch with a pot of candy on it's lap. All the candy you can get! I ran up to the scarecrow to help myself and the damned thing moved his hand towards the pot of candy! I ran screaming from that place. That-that was the the last time I went out trick o' treating.

This Halloween I was with a group of adults and our kids for trick or treat. This guy dressed in a scary clown mask walks up to the kids intent on scaring them. They didn't even notice because they were too busy concentrating on their next candy fix. Then he walked up to one of the adults and stood right in front of her. She totally freaked out. Her husband thought it was funny.
