I'm in the market for a road bike. I'm looking for a good ride, good components, and durability (I'm 6'2" and weigh 230). My old bike is a decade-old Cannondale R400, which is stiff, components falling apart, and a double crankset.

I'm looking at the Jamis Quest, which is 631 steel and has an EC70 carbon fork, plus mostly ultegra components, a triple crankset, and Mavic Cosmos wheels.

I'll be using this both for weekend rides, plus some commuting (city streets, hilly). The Jamis has an MSRP of $1299, which is quite low, and I'd think the LBS could do better.

Are there any other bikes that people would recommend instead?

How about the OCR touring? I can't find one to testride, but it looks like it might be okay. Components not quite as nice, but probably more durable.

Also, I have a fond dream of biking the blue ridge parkway. Probably never happen, but I'd not like to need a new bike if it did.

Hey, Bobby, what's shaking...

i think the Quest is a great value- one of the only steel/ultegra bikes available for $1300. i'd be seriously considering that bike only i'm taller than you and Jamis doesn't make anything bigger than a 61cm.

look at the bikes in the "special deals" section of GVHbikes.com too. i'll likely be getting a Viner Competition from them in the next month or two.
