Mountain Biking - Alright seriously here ballers...2.3 or 2.5?

I'm fixin' to put in my order for some K-Rads and I'm still on the fence. I'm planning to pop up over some ledges and hop some benches. I want to launch some stairs. Maybe once in a great while take it to the trails. I'm leaning toward the 2.5's but I don't want to disappoint myself by going overboard. I don't suppose I'll be doing any intricate Park riding b/c I'm too old and oafish to learn how to "flair" at this point. I will be dropping docks and hopefully one day learning to 3.

Scrub...what where you using on the Flow? I don't recall.

Run small block 8's if you plan on taking it to the trails once in awhile.

Dirt tires, since it was built up as a trail rig for me. 2.1 and 2.3 meats of the Nevegal variety, and something else I don't recall what was.

Suppose it gets down to: one do it all set of tires, or swap tires from trail to dirt?

I like the short knob dirt tire idea, but maybe something with a bit more toothiness than the SB8?

Yeah...if I weren't roped to Kenda...I'd prob. give Maxxis a gander. It's mainly going to be a pavement pounder, so the KRads are ma meats.

I have the ingitors, work great on the trails, I think they are a little to agressive for the road still, they grip well on all surfaces however. I've only had a major slip once, and I was riding on a very steep slanted, wet brick/cobblestone surface.

I really like the holly roller a lot better than the Krad. The Larson TT would make a great all around tire as well.

I have the 2.3 K-Rads. They are pretty nice and wear forever. I would get the 2.5 if I did it again though. If you believe the Kenda website, they are essentially the same weight. The 2.3 can run a higher pressure though.

2.5 as long as they fit. bigger is mo betta.

SB 8's F are terrible on any kind of dirt. Larsen TT R not much better.

If you weren't gargling kenda koolaid, I'd recommend Vulpine 2.1 R, Mutano raptor 2.4 F. That setup is hardpack/pumptrack trailworthy and worked well for me at Rays this weekend.

Those 2.5 Kendas you have pictures of in your other thread look like balloons. Not that that is a bad thing or anything...

Interesting...I was thinking about the 3/5 setup...but then I thought...what am I gaining there for my application? Def. on a pump track...I can see the cornering benefit up front and a snappier acceleration and less mass to hoist around. Is this the motive?

But for 99% urban...would I benefit as much? Should I get the 5/5 for loading dock drops. (to flat:lol:) I've never been so "on-the-fence" about meats b/c I've always purpose-built for trails. That's alot easier for me for some reason.

Okay...Gastro has brought something new to the table. 2.3 Front / 2.3 Rear is now dead. I won't even entertain that thought anymore. It's either 3/5 or 5/5. I'm typing this and liking the thought if it more and more...even as I near the end of this sentence I'm starting to close the door on 5/5...oh wait...it's closed. I just closed it.

The reason I'd go with the smaller rear is for SPEED. It's important for my style of erbun riding, which is a lot of banks, gaps, transitions, & short run-ins. I haven't dropped a dock or landed on stairs in years - NTTAWWT. I used to do it on 1.95's though, if that makes things any simpler.

I can't offer any advise on the type of urban riding you do, but i do ride the same downtown section as you and a 2.0 Maxxis minitaur with 28 PSI had me hitting the rim while climbing stairs on a tubeless setup yesterday. However I did take this same setup off the judicial center drop to tranny on the carbon hardtail. It was butta. Don't know if that helps at all.
