Hello,
The short story: walking back from a shop down my street with frame in hand (I had them remove the headset cups), I was stopped at a crosswalk waiting for the light to change when two emo-hipster-punk kids on fixies with no brakes (and no helmets) come on the perpendicular street dodging in & out of traffic. One of them on passing tries to grab my frame from my hand, which sent it flying into the road and bouncing on the tarmac. A car tried to stop but ended up hitting it on the undercarriage (it was not run over). I ran out and retrieved the frame to find no dents, but a good amount of scratches on the rear triangle near the dropouts. The derailleur hanger was previously removed (I was planning on re-painting the frame anyway, hence the entire stripping of the frame). Luckily, I was not able to detect any frame bends. Still straight and true, nothing out of wack... I think.
As for the kids: I've seen them around the neighborhood, often. Inevitably karma will kick their asses for this in one way or another, so I'm not too concerned about personal retaliation.

So I'm at the point now, off of some good discussion, that I should first get the frame checked out by a friend of mine who is a frame builder. Then, if all is 'okay', I would take it to an auto-body repair shop to have them do the necessary bondo work and painting.
....and no, I'm not powder coating the frame. Originally I was hoping to anodize it, but if there's bondo.... or even fresh aluminum on prior heat treated aluminum, it wouldn't come out right. So it's a straight-up enamel paint job that I'm after.
So... since this is the SoCal subforum, does anyone here have any experience in taking a frame to an auto-body shop for a paint job? Could you recommend any?
I live in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles proper, and will travel within some reason if the price & quality are worth it (especially if the shop has experience with a bike frame or two).
