Cyclocross - Advice on Upgrade Bike from Tricross Comp to something lighter/better race geometry

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I started racing CX last year as Men's C racer in cross and a Cat 5 road racer. This year I made it to Cat 3 road racer and Men's B cross racer, and I am ready to upgrade my cross bike. I love the Tricross comp for what it is (sturdy, cheap, etc...), but I find that it is a little too rigid and sluggish at times due to a geometry that seems to be focused on being a part time cx race bike and part all-around free road bike. Am I imagining this, or have others made the same switch? If you upgraded from Tricross to something else, can you please share your experience so I know that I'm not just dreaming about spending money for the sake of a new bike? What was your experience racing the Tricross and later upgrading? Big improvement?

I upgraded to a Tricross Expert and found a quite significant jump in performance. Not sure if the geometry is any different though, but it is lighter and more designed for racing. For the price (mid $2k), I think you could probably get something even more race dedicated, maybe even custom.

I think the Tricross Expert only takes me from 105/Ultegra to Ultegra/Dura-Ace, but I'm looking for a bit more of an improvement than just 1lbs. Has anyone else made a jump to a non-Tricross bike and seem big changes/improvements?
