My friends rear wheel got jacked off of her fixie and we're gonna build the replacement (I've always wanted to try building a wheel but never had a chance till now). I was wondering what tools and parts I need, and if there are any suggestions for really cheap but good parts? We're hoping to build it for less that $80

Tools:
- spoke wrench
- flat head screwdriver (for starting nipples onto spokes)
- truing stand

Parts:
- Rim
- Spokes
- Hub
- Rim tape

Good luck with staying under $80. If you hunt around you can price individual parts and built a wheel for that amount, but you're almost better off going with a pre-built wheel and just doing a de-stress/tension/true on it if you're really looking to save money.

You can build and true a rear wheel easily using just the chainstays; if you have a friend with a stand, use that, but if not, centering up in the chainstays works just fine.

Good luck man, make sure to read up before you get started. It's going to be really hard to build for $80. Even with a $50 hub and a $25 hoop, you'll still need spokes/nipples at apprx. $30, rim tape at $5, and any necessary tools.
