Triathlon - running outside in temps in mid 30s

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What would you wear? is this too cold for 50 yr old knees? I'll just be doing about 2.5 miles tomorrow morning if I don't swim.

No wind chill? Underarmor for my legs with shorts over the top. Long sleeve underarmor and short sleeve t-shirt over the top that shows up well in the dark. That might be too much clothes, but I don't mind sweating and 2.5 miles is not that long to be outside. Not too cold for my 45 year old knees.

OK, thanks, that was helpful. What about hats? Today I wore a Pendleton wool hat, baseball cap style w/ brim & ear flaps. By the end I didn't need the ear flaps and tucked them in. My gloves were good but got wet so I rinsed them and they are drying now. The hat got wet too so I turned it inside out and it is drying.

I usually run with a standard running hat (well vented, light, baseball cap), because it holds in some heat but not too much. I only run with a stocking cap if it is below zero on something short.

+1 to much of what flip18436572 said. Layers are good, though I've found I usually need less than I thought I would when I first began running.
My knees are the very same age as yours and on mornings like that I also do a ton of bicycle crunches just before heading out the door as a warm up.
I hope you enjoy the experience - I try to see it as Nature's Air Conditioning when I'm doing a heavy workout.
