I have a Polar FX. It's a pretty decent mid-range monitor.

I have the Cateye MSC-HR10 (http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/285). I does what I need. Cateye's V3 cyclocomputer (http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/460) includes a HR monitor.

I agree, plus I broke mine after almost a year, Garmin replace it with a new one no problem and I got a second chest strap and computer interface.
