Northern California - Fall Mountain Biking in Northern CA (pics)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey, all, I haven't made a thread in here lately, so I thought I'd share some pics from mountain biking around Northern CA during the month of October. I made a big thread in the Mountain Biking sub-forum, but thought you all might like to see some as well due to it being local and all!

This is looking towards Truckee from Andesite Ridge. The ridge can be accessed by the Hole-in-the-Ground (HITG) trail off of Castle Peak Road, across from Boreal Ski Resort:

While riding HITG, I made some new friends, and rode with them in to the evening in Cool, CA, on the Olmstead loop:

It felt incredible up there. The humidity and cold air made it feel like a sunrise instead of a sunset.

Later in the month, I was fortunate enough to ride the Pioneer trail. The trail starts up above Nevada City, and it mostly parallels highway 20 almost all the way until it intersects I80. We rode it 15 miles out and back, and experienced quite a variation in forest and trail types along the way. The trail starts at 3500 ft of elevation, and ultimately reaches 5000 ft at the turnaround point:

Finally, last weekend, I rode out at Bullard's Bar. It was a pretty ride for sure, but man it's far away:

I'm hoping November goes as well as October! I'm scheduled to ride Fleming Meadows this weekend, Pioneer Trail again, and South Yuba. I'm hoping next week to get in one last Tahoe ride for the year, or a big ride in Auburn at a minimum!

We used to do all those trails quite frequently. It's been a couple years since i've been on HITG but it's still one of my favorites.

Auburn is my normal weekend ride. There's 40 or so miles of great riding trails up there. I love it.

Pure luck :o My camera will take something like 100 shots continuous, so I set my friend up across this little ravine from the trail, said hold the button down and follow me with the camera as I ride by. That one didn't suck :D :D
