I went to see this bike. It says that it was made in Ohio. The three speed hub didn't seem to have any identifiables aside from made in USA and a serial number, plus it doesn't seem to shift at all. Its got a one piece crank. It seemed like a solid bike, but nothing to write home about. I am completely green on these 3 speeds, Is it worth the $50? I just want a not too ugly utility bike.

Not if it doesn't even shift. A broken Huffy has minimal value. Seller should be able to make it shift for you, if not, run away.

An Ohio-Huffy is probably worth about $25.00 in excellent, working condition. One that doesn't shift (most likely a Shimano 3-speed hub, check for a bell-crank on the right side rather than a very fine chain going into the hub) isn't worth messing with unless you've got a couple of spare 3-speed rear wheels hanging on the wall.

From what I've read, the Shimano hub hasn't aged well (my old boss considered them superior to Sturmeys). They're not hard to take down if you're an experienced mechanic, but I'm not sure what parts availability would be.

I already have a JC Penney, austrian 3 speed that I got before I knew better. The frame on this one and the components seemed a step up, but it still not up enough I guess.
