A good thing to try is to rool up to a ramp or a quarter slowly and start backpedeling and roll backwards off the ramp and then try to turn around. It's quite difficult but you have to do it a lot for a couple of months.

Dont forget about having a freecoaster. It makes it alot easier.

freecoasters are fun but they can make you lazy!!! I had one on my street wheelset that I used to swap out on my old race bike, I loved it, but hardly used it to its full potential.

A really good way to learn rollbacks is by finding a long hill with a small incline and just pointing yourself backwards on it and going down it. Push yourself backwards with your feet to get some speed and work on the steering and balance. You don't want to stand up during rollbacks, you want to sit down.

Once you have them dialed, you can stand up or sit down during them, but you have a lot more control over them at the beginning if you are sitting down.

I personally learned them on a regular freewheel and don't think that a freecoaster really helps that much with them. Use what you will riding with when you are going to actually be out there riding, it'll make things easier for you.

backpedaling kind of gets you more mentally involved in the fakie, and I find it helps balance, freecoaster fakies were always a slight bit out of control for me!!

rolling backwards is a skill. using a freecoaster or a freewheel doesn't matter, if you can roll back, you can roll back.

as mentioned, find a slight hill, sit down and learn to coast backwards. you don't even need to have your feet on the pedals for the first day or so, just learn how to steer. then put your feet on the pedals and learn like that.

practice, then practice some more.
