so i have an old schwinn world sport that needs new wheels and i wanted to get the wheels that i see all the time on fixie bikes with the colors on the side walls of the wheel. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-Xs2a2ipn-s/SH_OPSxwtxI/AAAAAAAAAOc/72kLrhL2B_4/s400/blk_fixie_7-794097.jpg
like this one. how are they different than your standard stock wheel and can i even put them on my schwinn which has what i believe to be cantilever brakes.

Maybe you could ask these guys- http://www.republicbike.com/?gclid=CKfqlqrk8J0CFSZdagodUSmiLg
They can probably hook you up with colored chains, too.

I would go to the fixed gear section of the forums, and do a search for "wheels"

Yeah, that's the place to go.
And essentially you're looking for deep dish wheels.

ok, here's a real answer.

the quintessential deep section rim for fixed gear is the velocity deep v. there are quite a few knockoffs of similar quality though, so search around.
you may have trouble finding a deep v laced to a road hub, but you should be able to find a deep v rim in the color of your choice and lace it up to your hub.

Those aren't sidewalls...those are colored V rims and road bike type tires.

27"/700c or similar, not cruiser or MTB/BMX.

If you remove the spokes and nipples you can do it yourself but you can't paint/coat the nipples and spokes put together or the wheel will be stiff and cannot flex properly and will fail from the stress. I wouldn't paint anyway.

The rims or entire wheels as far as I know can also be purchased in various colors if you know where to look.

Yes, the tire is that small. It's a different beast from a balloon tire.
