Been a while since I've posted anything, but I've a question... the situation: rear geared wheel, single chainring... reluctance to spend 80-100+ bucks on a "chain retention system" from, such as the Truvativ Boxguide system and a new e-type BB. The ride is a commuter basically, or will be -- utilizing a 5-6 spd rear wheel with a single chainring in front... the issue is that the chain will occasionally pop off the front ring ... my experience in the past has been that it usually pops off toward in the inside of the bike (wrapping around the BB) instead of going towards to outer... so perhaps I could get away with a just a No-Jump which should deflect the chain from jumping inboard... however - does anyone know of any systems or bodges (No jump plus outer guard?) that would ensure the chain would not jump inboard or outboard? (sans the use of a front derailleur that would do nothing?)... thoughts? comments? ideas? etc... thanks. Did a search - didn't see much coming in the way of this quesiton... so I hope its some what new ground and not a repeat...

try a locked-out front derailleur with the cage plates squished together at the front. maybe? *shrugs*

I use a bash ring and an old der on my tech/crosscountry bike. A chain watcher or third eye or whatever it is called would work just as well, but I like the front der because on the rare occasion it does jump I just shift it back on. There are no rub issues this way and with the bash ring I can catch on stuff over two feet when I up.

i like my idea better. you have to use a "precision squishing tool" as well...i believe Park calls their's the PST-4 or something...
