Starbuck`s now makes instant over-roasted coffee.

Can you say "thanks for the product we never asked for"?

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I have to say this seems weird. They even claim it is hard to tell the difference between their instant coffee and their regular coffee. ?????

Why would people take the time to drive to a Starbucks if they weren't going to get a regular item? I can't picture people stocking up instant packets either, because most people who drink coffee have a coffee maker at home, at work or wherever. Unless you're going camping and are miles away from civilization why would you want it?

my mom drinks this instant coffee stuff (gag) because she only drinks coffee a couple times a week, and doesn't keep a grinder & coffee maker around any more. She stopped because the beans got stale.

IMHO, go buy 1/4 lb a week from the bulk bin, then... instead of lowering your standards -that- much.

I have a coffee maker at work, but I don't like the coffee available. Its tough to make your own coffee when the other workers already have a half-empty pot sitting there.

If i don't have time to make coffee at home before I leave (or don't buy some on the way in), thats when I use the instant coffee in my desk. I didn't like starbucks instant, I have taster's choice "columbian" as my emergency backup.

I'd go without before drinking instant! Egads!

Get up 10 minutes earlier and make a press pot and put it in a thermos. That's my setup.

I've started keeping a little instant coffee around because occasionally I could really use a cup, and I don't want regular coffee or a coffee maker around. I like it too much and will drink it if it's there. I got addicted to caffeine once and decided I'm not ok with it.

I'm also not very picky about my coffee. Folgers and Yuban never hurt anyone.

It might be better than what they serve on planes, so I guess it might work for some people.

Thats my usual as well. My rare but special talent is turning off my alarm and instantly falling back to sleep, to wake up with 10 minutes to catch the next train before I'm noticably late for work, and no memory of the alarm ever going off.

reminds me of the coffee I got on a short hop flight, prop plane. It was black colored water and I could see to the bottom of the 3" tall white cup.

Sadly a lot of people in the States think that coffee should be over roasted and oily. Yuk. Here in Europe I drink dark roasted coffee. When I go to the States I buy the lightest roast I can find, which is still darker than what I drink at home.

When I first got my espresso maker a few months ago, I just had 6 or 8 espresso shots in a cup as my "cup of coffee". :twitchy:

That's how my grandparents made it. I think it was probably something they did to save money back in the depression days. They put in 1 or 2 scoops of Maxwell House for an entire pot of coffee. You could see to the bottom of the normal sized coffee cup. Then they'd reuse the grounds and put less scoops in the next day.

When I stayed there once, I made a pot of coffee in the morning not knowing their routine. I used 4 scoops for a pot (which I considered normal). My grandfather complained all morning that he could "chew" his coffee.

+1. Since I only drink coffee at home on the weekends (get it free in the office during the week), and my wife wants nothing to do with the stuff, I drink instant at home. We do have a camping percolator, a french press, and ground regular and decaf for when we have company, but I very rarely bother to get it out for myself.

But Starbucks instant is predestined to suck... and make them tons of money. :(

I generally don't even drink it at work unless I'm having trouble staying alert. The headaches after having busy weeks that cut into my sleep convinced me pretty effectively that voluntarily addicting myself to something was a bad decision.

I buy 100 paper filters every 4 months or so and I bring coffee grounds to the office. So much better then Starbucks or what the crapeteria downstairs offers, and a helluva lot cheaper too.

I don't quite understand - Starbucks tried for awhile to go up-market (Black Apron coffees that costed $15/half LB, now they're going the total opposite. Instant coffee isn't good...I don't know how they can talk out of both sides of their mouth, upscale and low-brow.

To those of you who like espresso but don't want to drop tons of cash on a in-home machine I highly recommend the Aerobie coffee press:

Perfect for home, even better if you're travelling.

I get that too if I make the coffee at family gatherings. They're all used to weak coffee, so if I make it with a proper amount of grounds, they can't believe how strong it is.

I keep one of those Melitta holders at work, too. I grind my coffee at home before I leave, then make it in the kitchen upstairs.

And to the Charbucks--I wouldn't be at all surprised if the instant tastes the same as their regular brew, since their regular brew is burned, anyway.

I am not a Starbucks drinker. Think their regular coffee is spiked with battery acid it's so acidic. I'm not an instant drinker, either.

Being said, who the heck cares if they introduce a product to compete with the Folgers and Taster's Choices of the supermarket aisle.

Some people just want their caffeine. And they want it now. So an instant packet is the preferred caffeine delivery system for them. So what?

Remember people, proper coffee strength is 2 tbsp grounds/8 oz. cup. Hearing 4 scoops per pot made me cry a little.

:)

First....amount of coffee per water is dependent on the brewing method.

Frankly...when I did 4 scoops per pot, that was back before I knew anything about coffee. I don't even do drip coffee, so I wouldn't have a clue how many scoops would be appropriate.

Yes, I know. When I think of you, I work REALLY HARD to not think of how you treat coffee consumption (most of what you drink I wouldn't even call coffee).

Please don't remind me....it just makes me die a little more inside each time.

I've been upping Couchy's coffee profile even more than it already was (and it was already decent). Hopefully, he'll be setting you right in due time.

hehe - no wonder Mom cleans her fridge out every time I leave there, she knows if I don't eat it then it IS bad.

Meh, days past expiration no problem. However I did meet my match on a yogurt a month or so past expiration date. It .... just didn't look right.:)

I like my coffee a bit stronger than the "average" drinker... My former sister-in-law would use one scoop for a pot of coffee.

The first time I saw it, I thought she had made a mistake and brewed a pot through just the old grounds...

I used to jokingly point out that you're not supposed to be able to read the newspaper through a pot of coffee.

On the topic, I am not a picky coffee drinker, but I do really enjoy a good cup when I have one served to me in a nice restaurant. There is a difference. ;)

Tude, I have decided that you have gone bat #@^$ crazy and need to go through the Couchification Run Down Process. As a result of your complete insanity you have lost your position as #2 but if you successfully pass the CRD Process you will obtain your #2 standing.

Don’t worry though, if you don’t finish the CRD Lesson, you will instantly become #2 + Infinity. Welcome to your new promotion!

Nonsense. Instant coffee has a reputation and therefore it's inconceivable that any company wishing to overcome that reputation might come up with a better way of making or preserving it for better flavor.

At $1 per serving, it sure as heck better be a lot better than the stuff you get at the grocery store for $5 for half a pound of it.

Yeah, I was wondering what marketing genius came up with the idea for Starbucks instant coffee. It just doesn't...make sense. I'm not a coffee drinker (only on speshul occasions) and even I know instant is tacky.
