Foo - Touring in the Light of Angelina Jolie's Tattoo (/other accompaniments?)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

She has a very interesting tattoo.

More than one, actually:

London, Feb. 2 -- Sexy 'Mr and Mrs Smith' star Angelina Jolie is apparently so fed-up with having to endure sitting for hours to get her extensive tattoos covered by make-up crews, that she has reportedly hired her very own private tattoo cover-up team.

According to a source, Angelina got so frustrated of having to sit for hours having her tattoos covered, that she decided to bring in her own team of professionals to speed up the process.

-- quoted in Delhi-based The Hindustan Times, one of India's leading newspapers

[First, I need to apologize for prejudging Angelina Jolie. So what if she is a Hollywood actress-airhead (whatever that means) -- she is also an interesting and intelligent human being. So what if her lips seem swollen and possibly implanted (which they may not even actually be: turns out she has had unusually full lips since childhood)(and what's wrong with that, anyway?). And so what if she has tattoos -- since when does that condemn a woman to some kind of sub-status anyway (I used to think that women with tattoos -- if they went beyond the rather-easy-to-accept demure rose tattoo on a butt cheek -- were not acceptable, somehow)? So I also thank her for disabusing me of these unnecessary and divisive notions and judgments. Now she seems like a full human being with some interesting ideas, philosophies, poetries, and spirits, some of which are expressed in her tattoos.]

This one is very interesting:

A prayer for the wild at heart, kept in cages.

And it could serve as a credo or a companion-idea to a bike tour.

Just as (bike wanderer) Heinz Stücke has credos written on his flag and accompanying his tours, so Angelina Jolie has hers written on her body. They serve as accompaniments to their tours and journeys through life.

Heinz has this written on his flag,

Be Carefree. Be Mad. Be a Little Bit Baad.

And he also seems to have something written on his flag about the Unknown. And how it keeps his wheels turning (or keeps up his interest in moving through life).

***
This has all started some new wheels turning, or some new possibilities arising.

--Pet philosophical (or poetic) statements that serve as interesting companion-catalysts, and add something to the tour or the journey?

You know, when the container says "use in a well-ventilated area," they're not kidding.

Extra meaning is given by a letter that was written by another wanderer-vagabond. He wrote this to a close friend,

Wayne,

Hate to think of a wild man like you in a cage....
Tramping is too easy with all this money you paid me.
My days were more exciting when I was penniless.
I've decided I'm going to live this life for some time to come.
The freedom and simple beauty is just too good to pass up....

is this forum dedicated to bike touring or something real strange?

I think I may actually understand what Niles is talking about, and yes I believe it has to do with bike touring... :)

Thank you, Imi, for seeing that.

It does, and it can even have a very strong relationship to touring.

John Muir, during his younger years, was torn between living a "normal" life as a servant to society or to follow his heart and live as one with nature. as we know, he chose the latter.

I'm also conflicted. although my good senses tell me to keep my dayjob, I often fantasize about the possibilities on the open road. maybe one day I'll hop on my bike and never return...

Ow, I think my mind is too small and I blew a few circuits trying to sort this one out... ;)

Then again, and if I understand: I too have a tattoo (several in fact) one of a Salish Orca across my back and since it represents the heritage I grew up in and getting a tattoo represents freedom and I bike tour this all obviously is a motto for bike touring, "Ride Like an Orca!" :p

BTW, I love Angelina Jolie's lips!

Pictures of Angelina's lips will be fine, better than a pic of mexican mushroom fields.

I WAS TALKING ABOUT A KISS PEOPLE! Boy some people's minds are in the gutter or something because evidently the sensors didn't like the picture of Angelina that I posted (twas a head shot). Sheesh! What next a banning?

Niles, your posts always seem to come out of completely nowhere. Don't get me wrong, I like what you have to say.

How is it that you haven't disappeared down the road of the endless wanderer? Your heart's obviously there...
