Folding Bikes - raising handlebars on a brompton

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Asking for help from fellow Bromptonians. I love my bike but find I am cramped and cricked in the neck by the handlebars. I have the s type. I have an extended seat post set at maximum for best pedal power. I want the handlebars to be both higher and wider. Have seen the SP thing online but can't tell whether that actually gets you higher or wider.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Actually ive just been through all that.I opted for the "aber halo" stem riser which i got from Thor USA.

A Wald high rise bar is the perfect ticket for a folder bike. It puts the bar up high enough for comfortable riding.

If you do a search you'll find a bit more info. I have just fitted these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spank-Tweet-Tweet-dirt-jump-bars-25-4-Blue-70mm-mtb_W0QQitemZ220488156184QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item33561e441 8&afsrc=1
to my S type. They work a treat, even with my raised homemade telescopic post.

Problem with high rise bars is that they tend to be for DH and therefore are heavy and overbuilt for folding bike usage.

Similar (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/folding-bike-modification-aviation-aluminum-double-stem-kit-black-55496) idea to the aber halo. Thinking about getting one for myself if it's sturdy enough.

yea there are Riser bars , from the MTB world .. Up a couple inches, and wider
and a bit more sweep angle..
Its what others have used,
You do have to replace all the cables and housing, though.. intentionally short at the factory , as they don't anticipate buyer changing things.
other problem is raising the bars , puts the bars into the ground when folded..
M bar set is sitting at Max , S bar is lower.. .. [upcoming H bar adds a bit more,
halved, to both sides of the hinge, so the fold doesn't increase,
as the bars to ground clearance, folded, is unchanged.
Know any Frame Builders? like in number 4 above,
they could modify the front steering mast, to fit a telescopic internal stem and handlebar clamp
might be a good idea to use a keyway in the mech, imho,
so turning the wheel will always happen
even if QR clamp is a bit loose.

it doesn't give you much but ergon bar ends are a dead easy mod and at least provide some different hand positions.... not much, as I said, but every little helps, and no interference with fold.

I bought a dahon andros stem for my m type brompton. I will install ergon gc3 grips and a riser bar along with the new stem, potentially increasing reach by 13cm (excluding the length of the bar ends). The andros stem has a qr on it, with everything installed, my brompton will fold normally penalty being an extra 2 second fold time.

I got mine from a german online shop. No one in north America seems to have it. I even had my lbs call up dahon and apparently the earliest they could get any is December.
