I just called Performance Bike to place an order and they answered "Thank you for calling Nashbar...er I mean Performance, how can I help you?"!!!
Come to find out they are both owned by the same company and use the same customer service dept. Go figure...I never knew this as one is in OH and the other NC.

And they both get a lot of their stock from a company in MN called Quality Bicycle Products (http://www.qbp.com/).

someone told me supergo too!
Thats funny. Nashbar ships your order within 24 hours, Performance within 72 hours if your lucky. Performance has not impressed me. Seems strange to think they are the same company.

I don't know for sure but more likely they are separate company that outsource there catalog ordering to the same call center. A good friend of mine is in management at a call center that does just that. That take orders for several different companies catalog sales. Cheeper for the company that way

Well you wouldn't think competitors would outsource to the same call center. FWIW, the sales rep actually was the one that told me they were owned by the same parent company.
I've had pretty good luck with Performance so far...whenever I place an order it usually gets shipped that day, and I always upgrade to 2 day FedEx and it arrives on time. I've bought plenty of Performance branded apparel and equipment, everything seems like decent quality.
DJ - I wonder about Supergo as well?

I used to work for the flagship store in NC when I was in college, and I never heard we were of the same company (w/ nashbar that is). But, the other day, I'm sitting in the bathroom reading Supergo, and I realize their address is the exact same as the Performance HQ out in Chatham County, NC.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they own WCP, because I only get their catalogs after I ordered from Performance, and few of their products really overlap.

Is the call center outsourced to India. If not, it will be soon, as all jobs are now being outsourced there.
For all those who claim that Performance, Nashbar and Supergo are the same company, how do you know that? Is it just speculation or is it fact? From a business perspective, the merging of the 3 makes sense, but the independent operation does not make sense. It is very inefficient to have three separate operations targeting the exact same customer base. There's no economies of scale. Worse, they canablize each other's sale. I have doubts that they are all the same company.

well on my part I am just guessing as I have no proof either way. It also would not surprise me either way.
Take a look a skymall catalog sometime (you know the one in every airplane) it is a catalog that combines several different companies mail order into one catalog and one call center. In their case the call center is in Arizona, at least for now ;)

Technically, they share the same ownership but it ends there. They are managed by different groups and are each responsible for their own bottom line. Performance carries a more higher end line of products and Nashbar caters more toward the lower end of things. There are many things you can get at Nashbar that you can't get at Performance and vice-versa.

When I went to a Performance store just a few days ago, I mentioned something to the store manager, & he confirmed they were both owned by the same corporation, not sure about Supergo, but had heard they were bought out too.

Performance bought Nashbar a few years ago. They have integrated some functions (like customer support and phone ordering apparantly) while many remain separate.
There are expenses involved with integrating two different companies that often offset the benefits of integrating, or at least delay them.
Furthermore, sometimes it is desirable from a marketing perspective to keep them separate due to overriding brand loyalty and niche coverage considerations.
Consider how GM has completely owned Saab for a number of years but has kept most of the production the same in order to maintain its loyal base.

Performance, Nashbar and Supergo are owned by the same parent corporation. When they negotiate deals with vendors, they most likely use the combined purchases from the 3 divisions to get concessions on price. At least, that was how it worked in the business I was in. Besides, who better to have as a competitor than yourself?

Re: Performance shipping, everything that I have ordered has shipped out that same day, as long as I call before too late in the day. For $20, join Team Performance to get an extra 10% off to be used on future purchases and also a free upgrade to 2 day shipping.

According to above link, Performance bought Nashbar in 2000, Supergo in 2002. While it is normal after an acquisition to announce that the acquired business will be run separately with little or no change, part of the reason for initially saying this is to avoid scaring loyal customers away to other stores. In the long run, whether or not Supergo or any other business is restructured or changed will depend in large part on whether or not its business model is working (i.e. are we makin' money).

I just visited the newly opened local Supergo. It's selection is SO much better than Performance. But they don't have the Team Performance 10% back program.

Does Supergo have the 20% discount coupons? I buy through the catalog and for the most part, performance has what I am looking for.

I like to go to the shops and look at stuff. Performance has most everything I "need" but it's nice to see and touch a Castelli Ypro3 bib, the new M2 pedals, 4 different brands of carbon fiber bottle cage, Zipp 404 and Spinergy Tilium wheels, etc... Seems Supergo has much more high-end stuff than even Performance's website.

Thanks for the link. It's the first time I've seen in writing of the "conglomerate" taking form.
