what are those black electric tape looking patches i see towards the front of top tubes? i can only think they're used as some kind of grip for the pants when leaning way forward on skids.

I'm going to start wrapping leftover bartape to the part of the top tube where my nuts would go when leaning way far forward on skids. They need the grip.
