Going away for my job. Wont be able to ride a bike while I am there. I am going to be away for roughly 6 months. So I decided to give my bike away early to someone. Now I regret it but I currently dont have a bike. Im not even leaving for two months. Im already getting jealous when I see other people riding.

Combined total time off the bike will be roughly 9 months. When I get back I will have to get a new bike so Im adding an extra month into that time.

Im worried about so many things. How much its going to hurt to get back in shape. How much I am going to gain weight. Sucks what I gotta do to make a living.

On the plus side, I might get a really decent bike next time.

Depending on your fitness level now, you can get back on the bike with minimal problems after a long hiatus.

I have taken several extended breaks from cycling and the only area that really get sore once you jump back into the sport is your butt...

Why can't you ride? Are you going to the North Pole or Antartica? Can you take one of those dull spinning classes? They even have spinning in India. My sister went to one.

I think if you keep up your cardio fitness with some dvds, like P90x, as Extort said only your butt will be real sore.:)

Its a government contract position. I will not have so many priviledges once I am there. Location is classified and likely dangerous. I cant ride a bike over there because its a matter of security.

The government is pretty good about treating people correctly when it puts them in harms way. I would think that they would have some sort of exercise machinery at the location you are going to... They really do not want you to get fat, lazy, and then depend on government run health care after you return...

As a daughter of a military man who would disappear for months at a time, I understand. Get some dvds. Play them on your laptop. But get some challenging one. You may find you're in better shape when you come back than when you went.:)
