Bicycle Mechanics - DA bar ends, SRAM compatibility

Shifters: DA 9-sp bar ends.
FD: 105 5500
RD: 105 5500
Cranks: FSA carbon
Cassette: SRAM 11-21

I'd like to go taller gearing in the rear, by swapping in 3 larger cogs.
I'd also like to go SRAM for the FD, RD. compatible with the shifters?

Eventually, I'd go SRAM on the bar ends, too, if possible. Is it?

Some say they mix and match, other's say not. It's a 9-sp setup.

I want to say no. I think the sram pull ratios are different.

you can always run it in friction. There are very few combinations that won't work then.

SRAM and Shimano front derailleurs are interchangeable.
As already noted, if you go with friction mode to control the rear derailleur, then you should be OK, as long as the Shimano bar end has enough range of motion. If you want an indexed rear shifter, stick with your current RD and shifter, or change both the RD and shifter to SRAM (you'll then also need to change your cassette and chain because SRAM don't make 9-speed road stuff).

My 9-sp cassette is SRAM, and you're right, I sure can't find anything in 9-sp.

I might be steering you in the wrong direction, but I was on rivbike.com and apparently friction levers such as the diacompe silvers(suntour retrofriction knockoffs) don't work with sram 9 speed mtn rear derailleurs. Not sure of why or if there is a difference with road rear derailleurs???
Anyway, my point is that it looks like SRAM might be finicky when it comes to friction shifting??

SRAM have made cassettes and chains for years but they only entered the road group market with 10 speed.

Drat. I'm not ready to spend the $ on 10-sp.

SRAM rear derailleurs and shifters use their "1:1 actuation ratio", which requires twice the cable pull as the Shimano 2:1 ratio. I've heard of people operating SRAM derailleurs with Shimano shift levers on friction setting by using a Travel Agent (http://harriscyclery.net/quality-bicycle-products-special-order-catalog-qc49/?action=list&searchtype=search&keywords=travel+agent&Brand=), but that seems to be the long way around to make this all work.

If you want an easier-climbing gear, swapping a cassette is easy. Your derailleurs will handle up to a 28 tooth cog in back, maybe a 30 tooth if you're lucky. You'll need a couple more links in your chain if you do this.

See you and raise you. I have a SRAM 11-34 cassette, XTR rear derailleur, FD-R443 front derailleur, Ultegra triple cranks, Deore LX shifters, Tektro brake levers, RX-100 front caliper, and Textro "standard" V-brakes on my recumbent. Just call me "Sir Mix-a-lot".
