Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 1980's Chorus gruppo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A friend of mine has asked me what a complete Chorus gruppo of the 80's might be worth. It is a 7 speed gruppo, with down-tube syncro shifters in good used condition that has always been well-maintained. My friend is now wheelchair bound and can no longer make use of his bikes and is beginning to sell part of his collection.
There are front and rear derailleurs, D/T Syncro shifters, headset, hubs, brakes, seatpost (27.2), BB (Italian threaded) and chainset and he should have pedals too.

I would guess $200-400 on eBay, depending on condition.

I agree. Citoyen, you didn't state if the crank was included, if so the $ stated...
if not .. 150 or less. if you were to sell parts ind., more but that would be a PITA.
The pedals maynot be of interest to an idividual interested in the rest, actually I would bet not. Pedals are too personal and old pedals were quirky, little universal appeal which could work in your favor. The right buyer could be willing to pay up to a hundred for just the pedals.
Someone wanting to complete a bike would want a group which you have. I suggest that if you DO wish to "included" the pedals, do so by mere mention, leave 'em out of the deal at large as they could seem to add to the price, provide an objection, contaminate the deal.
I can't imagine a CL buyer wanting your stuff, depends on where you live; NOT where I live but where I used to.. YES.
You ought to put 'em up on an appropriate selling forum here, easier. If not... e-bay, in which case have the pedals listed as a different item and you can list other things too.

Yep. I paid $350 for a complete group including a Mavic wheelset (minus headset which I already had). It's in what I would categorize as very good, but not pristine, condition.

Just re-thinking the wheels... W/O crank, still two or so. With... two would be cheap.
I just saw hubs, I take it as it comes so.....

Hello yes I would be interested in knowing if the cranks and wheels are included and the lenght of the cranks and the type of rims.

Thanks for the information. Chainset to me means cranks, chainrings, chainring bolts and BB fixation bolts. It always bothers me when people list cranks alone, as to me this means only the two bare cranks, without chainring bolts, without chainrings and without BB fixation bolts. Hubs are hubs, so not wheels, hence with no rims, spokes or freewheel. I'll see what my friend says and if he is OK with it will list the gruppo here with photos.

You'll still do well as we've described. Hubs can command good money on there own.
Another thing to consider if you feel better about leaving them out. Good luck.

$250. With the exception of the hubs nothing commands an overly high price.

I paid $375 for a 7-sp Chorus group: FD/RD/Syncro 2's, bb, crankset, monoplanar aero calipers w/white hoods and barrell adjusters, wheelset (laced to Mavic Open 4 CD's), new Jagwire cable set, chain, and new Pro Race 2 tires. It was in excellent condition and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
