Boise Mayor Dave Bieter regularly commutes to City Hall on a bicycle.

Mayor Bieter's staff wanted to buy him a new bike for his birthday this year, but realized that he would probably just continue to keep riding the one he's had since he was a kid. So they had the old Schwinn Typhoon restored to the same condition it was in when he received it on his tenth birthday.

Yes, London's mayor not only rides his bike to work, he also rescues damsels in distress along the way.

Ouch, riding a bicycle that fit you when you were 10 years old. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch.

Ouch, riding a bicycle that fit you when you were 10 years old. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch.

Nothing wrong with a Typhoon fitted with a longer seatpost - the problem is that those 12", Wald 13/16"-diameter seatposts (the only thing out there for Schwinn frames in a longer size, IIRC) will bend under the weight of most riders - whether it's past the max line or not.

C&V had a recent case of a cheap Huffy with one of these 13/16" Wald posts kinked about 20 degrees.

that, or "Ouch, riding a bicycle that won't fit you until you're 40+ yrs old. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch."

My city councillor routinely rides into City Hall but unfortunately he asks too many difficult questions and talks too much sense. So no one pays him any attention especially when many of the key decisions about infrastructure is decided by regional council (which is not directly accountable to residents).
