Hey, if any of you guys are in or around Philly I would like to ask you to go visit a fellow cyclist that got hit by a car here in Philly, his name is Mike and he's over at Temple, I don't know the details but I do know he got hit today and has a broken jaw that will need to be wired together, I figure tomorrow and any day after that would be cool, just go up and show him some love if you can, you don't have to have sex with him but a quick "Hey dude, how you doin'?" would be apreciated! :thumb: :)

That's unfortunate. Ill send my prayers and hope Mike has a complication free surgery and a healthy recovery.

update, I went to the hospital today and Mike appears to be doing well, winds up he was not hit by a car, he was riding really fast and got the green light so he decided to speed up even more to make the light, he made the light with time to spare but his front tire got caught in the trolly track! before he could react he did a face plant and split his chin open, but the bottom jaw is indeed broken, one crack on each side just below the temple, he seems to be in good spirits but is a bit goofey due to morphine, I called him a morphine monkey! Thanks for the well wishes RubberDucks, good Karma is on it's way back to you! :thumb:

No one has seen the bike as his dad has it, I think I'm going yo see if I can take a look at it tomorrow and see what the deal is, hopefully its OK. He should be OK in about two months as he has to have his jaws wired shut for six weeks! :twitchy: He's not big on junk food but I'm sure after six weeks of liquids he'll be happy to bite into a big mac or something. :)

ilikebikes,
Best wishes for your friend. That sounds painful. Don't worry about the damn bike. It's an inanimate object. The human being is all that matters. Once he is ready, he'll get the bike. Focus on being a friend as you are clearly doing. Good people make for good cyclists. Crappy, self absorbed, uncaring, reduced people make for the type of cyclists we all see much too often. It ain't about the bike. It never has been and never will be.
I find it an absolute affront that anyone would even ask about the bike or mention it in any way other than how it pertains to the person. A human being is hurt. A human being. This is what we've come to? Not on my watch. Not without comment, anyway.

Oldfixguy,
I am floored with your post. Now if you read my post you would have seen I was making a joke. I was hoping ilikebikes would shares my post with his friend so his fiend could laugh and stop thinking about the accident for a minute but since you were ever so kind with sharing your opinion the original meaning of this thread could have turned into a debate, was that what you wanted?
I would have never made the joke if I thought his friend was still injured but the post before my original post from ilikebikes informed us BF members who really do care about fellow bikers that his friend was doing well.
I made a bad joke earlier on this thread about the Yankees beating the phillies without even reading the thread.
I sincerely apologize. Hope your friend is well soon, wired jaws suck. Liquid diets get pretty boring after a few days. Make him smoothies with peanut butter and banana, he will appreciate it.

BianchiDave,
Fair enough. Yes, I can absolutely see the joke factor upon re-read.
To All,
I come to you with my hat in my hand. BianchiDave made a clear and obvious (to anyone who's not pre-loaded grumpy) joke in perfectly good taste. I decided to take it the wrong way and posted a scathing reply. My reply was unearned by BianchiDave. I need to grow up. Before I begin that process I find it necessary and appropriate to apologize to BinachiDave firstly and secondly to all who read that tripe.
BianchiDave, I apologize to you, sir. While not a leg to stand on, I ask you to consider accepting. The only practical recourse I have is to assure you that I mean it and to say to all that in the future I will restrain both tongue and pen long enough properly evaluate any given post.

Don't worry dude, I didn't take your reply as anything but funny. :thumb: I was going to take him a bag of "JawBreakers" candy but thought his girl wouldn't take to my humor, but after I was there for a few minutes the jokes began and I told them what I had planned, she laughed pretty loud and he just concentrated on trying not to laugh! ;)

Hope he's feeling better soon, I know all to well the abyss that hides under those damned tracks. I'll wager that first unwired meal will be a doozy. I hope he has some weight he's been wanting to lose.

^^ You are my opposite. Also a speedy recovery goes out to him.
Yeah, I wish him well. It's gonna suck for a while.
ilikebikes.....go check his bike out, and if it's not that bad maybe you could fix it up for him before he gets back to it. That's what I'd do.
