I'm thinking about upgrading the drivetrain on my Bianchi Pista. Any suggestions on cranks and bottom brackets? I've been looking at the Miche and Sugino track cranks. The Miche's look sick, but I would love some first hand advice. Thanks.

Can't speak for the Miche crank, but have the TA Alize along with the TA BB...very nice stuff...there are lots of TA pista chainrings as well.

F miche...altogether the gruppo is junk. Isn't the BCD on those cranks somewhat 'rare' or was this just an older version?

Miche uses 130 bcd which is the same as "normal" road cranks. This is great if you are using a 3/32 chain, because you can get all kinds of cheap, good road rings. However, if you want to use traditional 1/8 track chain, it is very hard to find matching chainrings in 130 bcd. If you are planning to use 130 bcd I suggest you just buy some nice double roadcranks instead.
if you want real track cranks I'd go with Sugino 75s (135 bcd). Only $40 more than the Miche and well worth it. Or, as suggested, the Campys if you have the money.

Woops, looks like I confused the miche with the TA.

suginos use 144bcd, not 135. i think miche uses 135. i like the suginos a lot...then again, old school dura ace road cranks work almost just as well...

Miche Cranks are tough as hell. I run 167,5 Miches on my Soma. Just last week I hopped down from a tall curb and suffered pedal kickback, but the cranks were not even scratched. Miche uses 135mm ring spacing (same as Campy road rings) so I currently run a Stronglight 50t alu track ring (is it just me or are Miche rings hard to find?)

i have a miche group on one bike and i've been happy with it so far (knock on wood). my other bike has the sugino 75s and i love them. if i hadn't been able to get a great deal on the miche group i wouldve used the suginos on that bike as well. but as far as strength and all, i don't think you would go wrong with either of them (especially for the money), or really any track specific crank for that matter.

Isn't Sugino (75 and NJS certified ones) the gold standard?
