Last night on my return home I bonked.... BAD! But I don't know why. This is not a rare commute. I had a great day, was full of energy weather was nice (had a headwind, but not as bad as many in the past). I guess this is more of a rant but I am very disappointed with the out come. I seemed to be struggling more than ever.

Maybe you are coming down with sumthin'? On the last MTB ride I did, I really felt terrible on the climb. I thought it was fatigue from roadrides on the weekends. I metnioned to my partner I didn't feel all that great the night before although I didn't feel too bad.
I struggled on the climbs but figued hey, if I can do it on a bad day, I can do it on a good day!:D
Later that evening I felt my temperature rise. My head and nose got stuffy, eyes wouldnt stop watering, and my nose ran all night and my boy was fatigued and throat was scratchy. I had a hard time sleeping for two nights. I figured at that point it was the flu. Next day I woke up I felt great!:D
Sometimes we don't know it but we're about to come dwon with something. Mine must have been to two day flu!:p
Maybe you are getting it too!

It happens. Your body was saying something, you just have to figure out what. Better food, extra long time between meals, take it easy on me today, or like Beanz said you're coming down with something.

Yeah that is what I thought. I guess I was just upset after having one of the best rides into work I thought I would do better on the return
Sometimes you just need to rest for a few days.

I have never bonked.
But I did run out of energy at mile 50 on a 85 mile ride.
Stopped ,drank one bottle of water and another of Gatorade, got some food and recovered about 90 minutes later to finish.

That happens to me, oddly enough, when I try to go for an "easy" ride. I've always been very active in sports but fairly low energy when not working out. I find that if I don't prepare myself mentally for exercise and get the adrenaline rush that I end up crashing. If I try to go for a relaxing ride, or just "shoot a few hoops" I end up having the shakes and needing to lie down (or is it lay down?).
