I was shown this video by a friend. He's been nudging me take up track cycling; I guess this is another push of his. It's an interesting video, a little strange, but perhaps inspiring to some.

I hope you enjoy it.

Yes, I've seen it before. FYI, the event is called the Team Sprint, and it is actually a time trial in which each rider on the 3-man team, pulls for one lap and then pulls off, and the final rider is timed as he crosses the line. The first man is critical in getting the other riders quickly up to top speed. Gym work such as squats are essential to start a large gear rolling from zero rpm.

Yeah, that video inspires me, too.

I saw the weights he had on, geez. I can leg press that (assuming they're 45lbers), but I don't have the back to squat that much.

Come out the The Encino Velodrome www.encinovelodrome.org/map.htm on Monday evenings.
Good people, good riding, great teacher (Stefan) $5 session fee, $5 bike rental if needed...you will have a good time. Session starts at 5pm. Get there a little early if you need a bike.

:) thanks for the invitation but I can't make it :(

I'm in class until 4:30 on Mondays, all the way over in Santa Monica. I'll definitely try it during Winter Session. And yeah, I'll have to rent a bike.

No problem, we ride year round.

I was checking the schedule and came across the "Low Key Time Trials". What is an "Encino style flying 200"?

The entire "Field" circles the track above the blue line at an easy pace.
The next rider pulls to the front
At the Start/Finish line he calls out his name and pulls away from the group, beginning his "Wind-up"
The rider has just over 1 lap to get to speed before the start of the 200m
after finishing the effort the rider has to quickly exit the track! often coming into the warm-up circle "HOT" but it is necessary because the next rider is now executing his 200m....

Its not an awful way to get through a bunch of 200's on a track that has shallow enough banking to allow for the on deck riders to make it through the turns at a slow pace... It can be a little annoying if you run a big gear- because you have less time to get it up to speed.

Cool. I've done those during Sprint Night at our track. It's efficient, but yeah it sort of takes me out of my normal psych-up game for a 200M.
