In december I bought my Cannondale F300...I new nothing about mtb except that I like to do it. I thought that just becuase my bike said Cannondale that this meant I could jump haul ass etc. Well I was a complete idiot and need to rebuild my bike. But that was then and this is now and I am a much better rider, can work on my bike by myself, and have learned that there is a different bike for every job. My problem?? I am ready to buy a new bike, but I don't have a ton of money. I love DH, and Freeride but I don't wan't to spend a crapload of money on just a DH bike, and not be able to ride around doing freeride which is to much for just an entry level F300. I don't have much of a chance to do the lift type stuff, but I like it, and I love freeride...there is tons of drops in town. (I love showing up the BMX'ers they get so pissed off...) anyway I am looking between two bikes right now. I can spend 2,500 and get a Cannondale Gemini 1000 (Yes I ride that hard even just after a few months...I freakin' love to bomb), or get a Cannondale chase of which I can get for a much cheaper 1,500. Yes its a hard tail but its built for dirt jumping, and the top tube is just right so you don't hit yourself...it would actually be more practical cuase I do more freeriding than DH, cuase it takes so much work...so what should I go w/? Oh yah just a hint of advice, I am just about to graduate, and I am under a gaurdianship and so like you have to move out as soon as your 18, so after I buy my books, and pay for all of the college stuff I won't have much money for a car, so all I am going to be able to do is ride...which is okay, but I need a bike that will deal with a lot of freeriding stress (Like everyday type stuff)...Oh and should I keep the F300 as a good hardtail for trails, and if not how much should I sell it for, after I rebuild everything?
