Foo - I now believe google chrome > firefox 3.0

I first thought chrome was a joke when the beta first came out, I was like Firefox is the best and nothing is better. Slowly but surely Firefox has decreased its once great performance. Its not as quick as I remembered it, and now there are more crashes than there use to be.I just went back to chrome over the week, and I really like the speed and the simplicity and the homepage is very neat. Oh yea another main reason I switched to chrome is goggle apps have been freezing with firefox 3.0. For example when I try to use Gmail, and I want to compose email it would just freeze and do nothing. Its just a pain, I think Firefox has everything wrong from 3.0 and on. I guess a good thing never lasts. Google chrome is good for me, and never ever would I use IE, lol I think of IE as the plague. And to be honest I don't know why, I just grown to hate it over time. I rather use something else.

Firefox is susceptible to two main things:

One: Too many add-ons running concurrently.
Two: Overflowing internet cache and history.

Both of these will cause slowdowns and possibly freezing. I have always set Firefox to clear private data at every close, and never run too many add-ons. Can't say I have ever had problems with Firefox.

I am to lazy to set clear private settings, call my lazy boy, screw firefox, once they get things back to the way it was I will go back, I like google products, I use Google Maps , Gmail, now Chrome, I know alot of,

Inc. get sloppy, but Google has kept it real since the beginning, I will stick with chrome for a bit, If I get aggravated with chrome I will go back to firefox thou.

All your firefox issues may be due to your lack of proper maintenance.

I'm using Firefox, Chrome, and IE8 (in that order). Had Opera for a while.

I'm having network connectivity issues, but Firefox seems to load pages/sites that Chrome and IE8 can't/won't.

I guess that is the best of all worlds, have all 3 at your disposal but as far as default web browser goes, im going to stick with Chrome for a bit. FireFox needs to come in the clutch like it use to. IMO.

Yeah I cleared the cache and cookies and everything works, YEY!! whatever I still dont like firefox like I use to, something doesn't feel "organic" like it once did, when I first used it over IE.

Firefox works for me, haven't tried Chrome yet. I've tweaked FF for speed, and keep an eye on the temp files and cache. At the end of the day, they're just browsers. (Although I prefer either one over IE/Safari.)

I never really got stuck on chrome. I've liked Safari since the day it came out. Right now Safari 4 is about three times as fast as Firefox. I also find that Safari cleans out cookies the most efficiently out of all the browsers I've tried. Maybe I'll try Chrome to see if it's any faster.

edit: nevermind...they don't even have Chrome for mac yet :p

No. It's just that of all of the search engines out there, with Bing, Google, and Yahoo! being the biggest, Google is like the King Kong of them all. Just sitting on top of the tallest building, glaring at everybody else and flinging poo the size of Studebakers at would be challengers.

For me; ie attracted more spyware than any other browser. Also it was the slowest and still is. Another thing is that it takes up more space with custom tool bars than most other browsers.

I pretty much use every browser since I do web design. I have to make sure all of the javascript/html I write works identically across every browser! Now Goole comes along and throws Chrome into the mix - thanks! Luckily though Chrome is basically using the same display engine as Safari so it's not all that hard to keep happy :).

Also, I don't really see Chrome as organic since it's owned by the biggest entity on the Internet - Google. At least Firefox is open source. I guess it depends on exactly what you meant by organic.

I never understood why people love FireFox. I think the hype was created by fanbois who hated IE and just jumped on FF because they thought it made them look smarter than average.

I use it as a curiosity and because I am in web development but I don't like it. I'm with RubenX on this one. Google is evil and is trying to take over the world! Muhahahaha. But seriously Google is way too powerful and needs checks and balances. They are their own government now. Plus it's not available for Linux yet whats up with that?

I haven't tried Chrome, but I like Firefox well enough. Sometimes it's slow when I try to open it the first time after turning on the computer, but after everything's "warmed up" it's fine. However, it deletes all of my cookies, screen names, and passwords every time I close it, even though it's not set to do so. Still haven't figured that out, but it's pretty annoying having to sign back in to everything every time I open it up.

I had used nothing but IE until earlier this year, when I suddenly started having weird issues with it. Before that I never had much trouble, but I like Firefox slightly better anyway.

I think the reason I like Chrome is because it is not as cluttered as Firefox, all i need is a big screen and some tabs. Plus the homepage is so simple yet so effective. I guess I would say it is sort of like windows XP, simple, fast and gets the job done, Firefox 3.0+ feels like Windows Vista, sorry if you dont feel that way but you must admit that firefox has been crashing alot lately.

If you hit F11 in IE or Firefox you'll jump into full screen mode. It'll take away any toolbars - no clutter at all. Just hit F11 again to get everything back.

I don't use Firefox nearly enough to confirm or deny any crashing :).

I used to scoff at Chrome for being a new kid on the block with version 1.0 code. However, after the first security patch or two, I have yet to come across any major security issues recently. So, it looks like Google's security model is a good one and has withstood the slings and arrows of blackhats well so far.

Believe it or not, IE 7 and 8 have a darn good (though not completely immune to stuff) security model. If an add-on in Firefox has a hole in it and is exploited, the exploited code runs completely as the user. In IE, something that escapes from an add-on can only write to the Temporary Files\Low directory, and the HKCU\Software\Low registry area.

These days, there are three reasons I stick with Firefox: Adblock, NoScript, and Ghostery. This makes browsing a lot more bearable and helps privacy.

IE for work stuff.
Chrome for everything else.

I've found that opening/closing/opening lots and lots of tabs on IE starts to have issues. Chrome doesn't care how many as long as there is memory to use.

Everyone should if they leave the default settings in place. It's just like the OS, eventually you need to clean out all the clutter to get the original performance back. This is called maintenance. Of course, you could change the settings to pretty much handle this for you, but this takes away a little from the user experience and companies such as MS, Firefox and Google want to provide the best user experience possible.

In reality, by simply not installing add-ons and keeping the cache clean, it will maintain the original performance. All browsers suffer from this. Google Chrome not excluded.
