Introductions - Hi from the Wet Coast! (Wet, when it's not on fire...)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Excuse the title, the news is full of the forest fire situation at the moment.

I've been riding a bike since I was six - you do the math. Boy, is my butt sore!

Seriously, I'm mostly a casual rider/commuter. I buy all my bikes at yard sales or thrift stores and seldom go over $20. As a result I have a truly impressive scrap heap out back and three current complete bikes. My primary ride is a Steve Bauer something-or-other. It's kinda light for a mountian bike and kinda heavy for a road bike. At least I know it's not a BMX! It's also a man's bike in a charming shade of dark pink and white. I call it Princess Josephine because it's got to be a tomboy and Jo from "Little Woman" leapt to mind. (Yes, we name our cars too...) My husband got it for me when my one and only brand new bike was swiped the second month I had it. I think he paid fifty for it. Not bad considering he paid $89 for the POS from London Drugs that got stolen.

My other bikes are a Commuter Supercycle 6 Speed which seems to be a Canadian Tire brand and which was given to me when a friend's daughter refused to be seen on it. I also have a very stripped down five speed which is unidentifiable due to a home paint job. I paid five bucks for it.

Well, that introduces my bikes. Now for me!

I've always lived in the Lower Mainland area of BC. Right now we're in Surrey. I've got a husband, Randy, two teenage boys, Dan and Josh and dozens of pets. I work at a small zoo where I conduct tours, run the Mammal Department and take classes in Animal Wrangling. I've been there nearly four years. When I say my work follows me home, I mean it! Most of my house pets are retirees or offspring from the zoo. I like to write and I'm active on several message boards. I write novels too. I've written 1 & 3/4 of a trilogy which will eventually become a series. I used to write a lot of poety but I've slowed down since I got into the books.

My burning ambition is to ride my bike across Canada. The original idea was to do it before I turned thirty. Um, thirty-five. Ah, how about forty? Okay, next year! Forty-five is my limit! Really!

Say, anyone know the record for oldest cross country rider?! (sigh)

Welcome to the forums from this Yank! I was born and raised in Bellingham, just down the road from you all. I have family in B.C, Sask, and Ont. My kids are grown and my daughter is married and has a son. They all still live with us. The grandbaby has it great, with built-in grandparents. I too have a managerie. My wife and I raise and show miniature horses. We have around 30 on the farm here.
Also a few saddle horses for good measure. Not to mention several dogs (Great Dane, Mastiff, Pugs, Blue heeler, and ****zu.). Of course several assorted "barn" cats. I just recently got back to cycling after about a 6-7 year hiatus. Doing limited commuting. I ride a RANS Tailwind recumbent. It has been the absolute best bike I've ever owned, and that includes 2 Raleighs, and a Trek. The previousl were all road bikes. Enjoy the forums and keep peddlin'. You are as young as you feel (I'm 53)!

For some reason the forum edited the one dog breed out. It is one of those little "dust mop type dogs".

I wrangle two animals, both human, though it's often hard to tell. Like yours, mine have a habbit of following me home at night. Unlike yours, I'm guessing, I've taught mine to ride small bikes. Do you think it's moral, to teach my critters dumb animal tricks, for my selfish amusement?

Have fun. Look forward to your posts.

Well you could teach tricks for your own amusement. Although you have to realize the consequences when these tricks are performed (not on que) in front of family and friends! He He.

Ah yes, I remember teaching my two legged critters that particular trick! Of course I'd expected the bikes to get bigger when they did...

I think the funniest thing in the neighborhood is my 6'3" son on a 20" BMX!
