I figured since I just ordered this I'd save anyone doing research on it if you're thinking of ordering soon. I originally got the link to the item on these forums.
Thomas Distributing currently has this item on sale until 11-30 as a kit here (http://www.thomasdistributing.com/shop/la-crosse-bc900-battery-charger-w-lcd-displaybrdeluxe-travel-bag-accessory-kit-brprice-5497-p-539.html?SP_id=41&osCsid=a98rm8a91donrsllit8gi3gna7). Kit comes with 4 AA's, 4 AAA's, C and D adaptors and the travel bag. Sale price is $35.97. I used discount code I found on the internet (gcne561) to get another 5% off. Then I added the special deal thing for the 4 battery cases which reduced the shipping and only added another $1.67 to my order. Total shipped was $43.56 to California.
But you can also get the charger kit with free super saver shipping through Amazon right now for $39.99 if you'd prefer. I don't like ordering from Amazon when I want to get an item in a reasonable amount of time. So the extra couple of bucks spent was worth it to me.
Now hopefully I can do something with this big ziplock bag of batteries I've had sitting around that won't hold a decent charge on my el-cheapo-came-with-the-batteries charger.

That's a heck of a deal. Wish they were doing it with low self discharge batteries though, that's all I'm buying anymore.

Costco/Amazon has Sanyo Eneloop battery packs for about the same price. Battery selection may be different. So far, I'm impressed with the batteries in PBSF. They hold their charge well.

I'd never heard of low-discharge NiMH batteries until I came to this site. The only applications I have for rechargeable batteries are in frequent use. I use NiMH batteries from Harbor Frieght, which are something like $3.99 on sale, in my headlights. Their capacity is lower than brand name batteries, but at a buck a piece, I just use one set when I ride at night and charge them during the day. But I do find myself riding 1-2 hours a night, especially this time of year. Batteries in my cheapo light last only 1-2 hours.
I usually just buy alkaline at the 99 cent store for any applications that low-discharge batteries would be useful for. That's 25 cents a battery. It would take me a long time to recoup the cost of using rechargeable batteries in those applications.
Maybe when I switch up to a newer and brighter LED flashlight/clamp setup, I'll need to look into it? Although some of the lights I've looked at only seem to be rated at an hour or two when they're bright enough to be useful.
I also noticed:

Thanks for the tip and the discount code! I got the same deal you did. I've been struggling with a cheapo trickle charger.

I've found that when my friends say "I tried rechargable batteries once, and they suck" that means that they had a cheap charger.

I bought my LaCrosse bc900 charger from Thomas, and was glad i did. I got some sort of package deal like the one you mentioned, and also got help from them when the first charger quit working and LaCrosse wouldn't help with the warranty. You made the right choice.
I got it via UPS (my employer) today! That's the fastest turnaround I've had in a long time! I've already charged several NiMh cells - I love it already!

Get the LaCrosse charger, period. It is not a matter of saving 5 bucks here or there that matters. Been using my LaCrosse w/ a Dinotte lite and this charger just flat kicks wild a$$. You will not be disappointed.
