Foo - What hobby/project are you working on these days?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Cycling isn't the only thing we enjoy on BF as the numerous threads have shown. What are you guys working on right now as your personal projects/hobbies?

I'm flaffing around with flight sims (trying to get accustomed to x-plane) and started on some photo/video-editing again (photoshop/premiere elements).

Biggest time sink is reading 3+ historical romance novels per week for overa year now. Other than that and chocolate, I'm currently tracking down a couple automotive electrical problems, one in olde English for no charging (those are usually straightforward grounding or regulating problems) and one more modern rice burner with bad audio that looks like several problems (prior chop job, burned up output, and bad speakers in all likelihood).

I've been working on "The Studio™" again.

Today I'm pulling all the stuff away from the outlets so an electrician buddy can finish up the wiring. After years of work, I'll finally have heat, power, audio, network and light for Winter projects. :)

I play guitar, mostly folk on acoustic and blues rock on electric. Not too good, mind you, but I enjoy it.

I also have a couple Pomeranians, a Schipperke mix and a pile of cats that consume a lot of my time. The poms really like to tussle a lot, I suppose we play an hour or two a day, five minutes here, ten minutes there. We also just took in a blue tortie kitten who likes attention.

My wife and I, while not really calling it a hobby, make an effort to find hole-in-the-wall and unique restaurants. We've driven 60 miles for ice cream before.

I'm getting back into music performance after several years of not touching the stuff.

At the moment I'm playing the piano, turntables, and singing harmony.

playing the guitar (mostly instrumental music lately). I need to finish tabbing a couple songs I've been sitting on. Computer games, got a few 'new to me' games on sale recently (fallout 3, bioshock, assassin's creed, the witcher, mass effect, stalker: shadow of chernobyl).

I've also been reading a lot more lately, mostly non-fiction. "The Discoverers," 2-volume history of scientific discovery (duh :)), then "The World is Flat" (rise of global competition from internet), and now "The Seekers," a history of philosophy (I think).

I bought a house two months ago which had two break-ins within the first week of owning. Heater, air conditioner, 4 smoke detectors and copper pipes were stolen. It took weeks to get things in order before getting tenants. Now that they are in, there are a few things left to do in order to get it all wrapped up completely. Once it is done, I will buy yet another place to either rent or sale. I need to get this ball rolling so that I can go on a bike tour next year.

I am cleaning a lot of brush with a machete, I just bought 500 catfish fingerlings for the ponds and 200 langostinos (think fresh water lobster), and making trails all over the place.

That is what I am doing for amusement.

Seducing women

Yes I have similar interest. I need to get that darn turnstile installed in the bedroom door. Those lines of women are getting out of control! :roflmao2::roflmao2::roflmao2::roflmao2:

Seriously. Believe it or not I come home and write programs. I actually make a little money at it. I wrote some software for the Garmin GPS that I sell. Since I am a programmer at work, this inerest has fallen by the wayside as of late.

I have renewed my interest ine electronics. The first project is to get an old radio working that I built in high school. You have no idea how hard it is to find germanium transistors these days!

Another project I have in mind is to build a solar panel that tracks the sun. Any astronomers out there? I need to see f there is a way to determine the optimum position and angle of the panel based on the date and time of day. You think I would know that stuff already with my interest in sailing but I never really got into the celestial navigation part of it.

Yikes how much property do you own?

I had no idea langostinos were fresh water. Is there a salt water version? I actually prefer them over lobster. The meat is much more tender.

So when are you going to be hosting the Bike Forums dinner? :) Catfish and langostinos are two of my favorite foods!

My big one at the moment is helping to refurbish an old steam-powered sternwheel-driven tug boat. You'd be hard-pressed to recognize her for all the facade they built up for it, but the Portland was the sternwheeler used in the movie Maverick.

My soccer season for the year is just about over, and the trails are getting a bit muddy for hiking, but skiing will start soon.

I'm also thinking about buying and fixing up a 600cc open-wheel race car. It was my senior engineering project, and now the school is selling it.

I'm gonna suggest earrings made out of toes. That way with you can match them with the necklace.

I ordered a pile of woodworking hand tools (a set of chisels, mortise gauge, plane, try square, bevel, and a dovetail saw) a few days ago. Looking forward to that.

Also I've been playing with some old cameras (Pentax K1000, Nikon Nikomat FT2, and a Spartus Full-Vue pseudo-TLR), and dabbling in baking/cooking.

Not sure if there is a salt water version. Yes, I think they are better than lobster, sweeter too.

We only have 786 acres at last count. Looks like we are buying more come spring though. :thumb:

I need to start getting some lagers brewed as the garage is getting down to good lager temps now. Some stouts (need to get a stout tap for the kegerator), when spring rolls around get some lawnmower beers going. been working on an arrogant bastard clone that is pretty damn close. I have not brewed an belgian tripels yet, but want to.

So lagered stouts? Sounds interesting. Aside from the convenient temps, what drives your decision to go lager instead of ale?

One of these days I will actually have to try arrogant bastard. I'm either never in a place that serves it, or in a place that has too many beers I can't find at the grocery store to bother with one that I can.
