Hi,

I've started perusing the local Craig's List for a tandem bike to use with my two boys (6 & 3.5, both very tall for their age). I'm looking for tandems like the Trek T900 or Burley Zydeco Mixte to accomodate the 6 year old on back without needing a kid stoker kit. What I would ultimately like to do is find a Burley Piccolo or Kazoo to attach to the back so the youngest one can ride along with us. I just missed a sale of a good condition Piccolo for ~$125 :(

Are there any problems using a third wheel like the Piccolo on a tandem? Anything to watch out for?

Put the 3.5 kid in a trailer and the 6 yo can go on a 3rd wheel (alley cat). My son used an Alley Cat (with 6 speeds) on the back of both my single and tandem from age 6-9. Worked fine.

The little one is too tall for most of the trailers I've seen, and that'll only get worse by spring :). I was thinking I'd get the backrest & strap from Adams for some extra security for him.

There are next to no issues with a Piccolo (especially a Piccolo) attached to a tandem. You just have to remember that its back there when making really tight turns. We've used one with our tandem and our Triplet. Other than the odd car driving by so everyone inside it can gawk and/or take pictures of our ride we have experienced no problems at all. :o)
