Has anyone had problems getting the Shimano SLX rear derailleur to shift properly?

At the beginning of the summer I purchased a Bianchi Axis Cyclocross that came with Tiagra shifters and a Shimano SLX rear derailleur. After riding about 200 miles the rear derailleur began to shift randomly up and down when I was using the three to four highest gears in back and the large ring in front. The LBS that sold me the bike has not been able to fix the SLX after changing parts in the derailleur and changing to a heavier shift cable. They substituted a Deore rear derailleur that had the same problem until I straighten the rear derailleur hanger (the bike was never crashed, it was only about 5-6 mm out of true). Even though I now have the Deore rear derailleur working, I am not happy with the quality compared to the original equipment on the Axis. The LBS personnel believe that the way the shifter cable enters the SLX or the Deore XT that I would like to have is incompatible with the Tiagra shifters. It is not a money issue as I told them I would pay the difference to up-grade from the SLX to the XT. I would appreciate any information that could help.

have you been riding cross with it? rear derailleurs take a beating in cross. I find i have to readjust mine after each race. If you fixed the hanger try putting the old derailleur back on. There could be a number of things wrong. www.parktool.com is a good place for instructions on how to fix things or www.sheldonbrown.com.

Thanks for the feedback. The LBS contact Bianchi and there was an issue with some of the rear derailleur being bent. They also recommended re-installing the SLX.
