First - I have no ties whatsoever to this company - I just found their site over the weekend.

With that said, has anyone seen this? I have downloaded it and am quite impressed compared to some of the other (somewhat clumsy) logging tools. It appears to use a Microsoft Money type framework (I am sure that there is another name for the framework) and is quite elegant. Lots of reports and graphs, etc. . .

Well, as the author of the CycliStats ride diary and training log (http://www.CycliStats.com ), I am not unbiased :).

But, in my professional opinion, the program needs quite a bit of work. It certainly looks nice, but lacks in many usability and ride logging features. For instance:

Logging a Ride - It took me a bit of digging around before I found out how to even log a ride. Given that this is probably the single most used feature in a ride logger, I would expect it to be easy to find this important feature.

Logging a Ride II - It won't let me log a ride unless I enter Maximum and Average Heart Rates. That seems overly picky...I don't always ride with my HRM.

Logging a Ride III - Ride Time only permits entry in whole minutes...not hours, and not seconds!? Since most of our cycle computers display hours, minutes, and seconds, and since seconds has an impact on average speed, this omission seems really weird. As a programmer, I suspect they did this because dealing with hours/minutes/seconds is a real pain - but, it's how most of us think about time and it has an impact on the ride data so it's something they should have dealt with.

Miles vs. Kilometers - When you first start using it, it requires you to enter your weight in kilograms, and forces you to enter a Route with the distance in kilometers and elevations in meters. Later on, you can select miles and pounds, but that option should come up first in my opinion.

Summary Data - Things that I would like to know like "how many miles have I ridden this week?, this month? this year?" are not readily available (at least, I have not found them so far).

Bike Maintenance - no provision for this, so it's not possible to know how many miles have accumulated on my tires, chains, etc.


But, like I said above, I am very, very biased...if you are interested in an alternative, check out my CycliStats program. It's more of a diary and log, and less of a "coach" and is much easier to use (in my not-so-humbe opinion). Sorry, but no plans at this time...I don't have the tools or the time. I wish there were a way to port my programs to the Mac, and I often wonder why Apple hasn't addressed this issue. It would seem to be a no-brainer to offer some sort of Windows emulator (worst case), or program converter (better). There is a whole lot more software written for Windows than Mac and Apple has chosen to ignore it for years.

SSP - thanks, I will try out your product as well. Re your comments - I agree that logging a ride is cumbersome. However, I think you missed the Summary data issue - just select "full" from view for you 'home page' and you get excellent summary info in both graphic and text format.
