I picked up a pair of these innersoles at a discount place. Then I got home and found that the battery packs for them are very expensive...

Do they work? The heating element would be right over the cleat, which I wonder about.

I can't say whether they work, I've never used them. It looks like they simply use proprietary plugs to have you plug into a plastic battery holder that holds 4 AA batteries. I wonder if you could simply cut the proprietary plug off, wire in universal connectors and buy a couple of 4 AA battery holders from Radio Shack that you wire with matching universal connectors. Manufacturers like proprietary plugs because they can charge an arm and a leg for their product.
