Road Cycling - Vetta V100 bike computer question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm looking for a new bike computer; having a cadence feature is a requirement and having altitude readings would be sweet (I love riding in the mountains, so having some sort of an idea of how much climbing I've been doing would be nice -- or depressing, depending !). I've always used Vetta's and I noticed from their website that their V100A model seems to fit the bill. However, reading through their on-line manual indicates that the ride-time / distance / speed, etc. functions only auto-start if the ride-time is at 0:00:00; otherwise, it has to be manually started. That would seem to imply that you'd need to manually restart it after every stop-sign, traffic light, bathroom break, etc. Can this be true? I've read some conflicting reviews on-line; some reviews imply that this "feature" is only on the wireless model and the wired version doesn't do this. Can anybody who currently uses one of the V100 versions comment on this?
The only other computer I saw that fit the bill was from Ciclosport (CM434 or somethingl ike that), but their manual appeared to be a bad translation from not-sure-what to English. Any recommendations for computers with cadence / altitude functions (besides the HAC4 -- I don't need all that, nor do I have the patience to learn!)
Thanks,
Kevin

I have the Vetta V100HR. I wanted to have both cadence and Heartrate fuctions. I have the wireless speed and cadence option. I had to actually go out and doulbe check. There are actually 2 timers. RT and TT. Ride Time and Total Time. When the timer is set to 00:00:00 it will in fact start both timers for you and they will remain the same until you either maunally stop the timers, or stop the bike. If you stop the bike, the Ride Timer will stop automatically, but the Total Time will continue to roll forward. When you start forward motion again, the Ride Timer starts again.
So in a nut shell, the answer is in fact yes and no. The total time timer won't stop when the bike stops and won't restart if you manually stop it.
All in all i love the Vetta V100HR since it happened to be the only HR/cadence comp. that I could find for a decent price. (one that had actaul cadence and not virtual cadence).
Let me know if you need any more info.

Is the wireless sensor attached to the chainstay? Any problems with transmitting the signal from the chainstay to the handlebar?

I have the wireless V100. The manual make it all seem more complex than it actually is. When I first read the manual, I thought I would never be able to operate the thing. However, it's actually very simple.
When you are riding and stop at stop lights etc, the RIDE TIME will stop and start automatically, without you having to do a thing. The TOTAL TIME will always keep going. On the wireless model, the computer enters standby after a few minutes of inactivity (no riding). You have to press a button to wake it up again, but the RIDE TIME will start again automatically, and the TOTAL TIME never stopped. This is no issue at stop lights, but you have to be aware of it for longer breaks.
The only time the timer will NOT start by itself is if you manually stopped it. If the timer is running and you press stop, you will have to press start again for it to continue. It will not start again by just riding.
(DISTANCE, SPEED etc only operate when the timers are running)

Cool, thanks. That's what I figured it must do. I've re-read the manual, and now it makes sense what they're trying to say. Which is sadly how I've found most manuals to be -- once you know what they're trying to say, you can actually understand what they're trying to say. Sheesh.
Stupid question but can i upgrade a V100 wireless installation to a V100HR wireless installation just by replacing the computer on the handlebar i.e. without moving any of the sensors the LBS installed?
thanks,

Ok two answers. One, the wireless cadence sensor works really well. I was worried about the distance (i ride a 60cm frame) and there hasn't been a problem. I also worried about by ankle or leg hitting the sensor, but again no problem. (i haven't done a weight comparison between wired and wireless, I just hater running wires)
As for upgrading. The wireless speed & cadence kit is the same for all V100XX models so yes if you change out the computer your could switch fuctionlity.
