Introductions - Greetings from Jackson, WI

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been biking for about 20 years. The doctor just discovered arthritis in my left hip about 4 months ago so my biking has slowed considerably but I still manage at least 190 miles per week at 13 -14.5 mph average speed. I have a Trek road bike and a Raleigh mtb. I just started winter biking two winters ago and for that I use my Raleigh mtb. For the future I plan to buy a new road bike within the next 10 months, possibly an Ibex or Novara(REI).

I'm sure that winter biking will cure that arthritis. If you get that road bike sooner, rather than later, make sure they put tires with studs on it! Glad to see that we have another nutty northerner on the Forums. Good luck with your riding, and please post stories of your adventures.

Doc say anything about taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin for that arthritis? Is it osteoarthritis?
You might want to do a bit of research on this, as my doc says take the stuff.

The doc recommended glucosamine. I've been taking it for 3 months. It SEEMS to help. I also got a cortisone injection from the doc shortly after he discovered the arthritis. The cortisone helped tremendously. I also got a prescription for an anti-inflammatory, Naproxene.
